Obituary of Charles Philip Gilligan

Charles "Charlie" Philip Gilligan, 70, died in Colorado Springs, Colorado on December 4, 2018.Charlie was born on December 8, 1947 at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Pennsylvania to Roy and Mary Elizabeth (Reilly) Gilligan. Charles was second generation American born 100% Irish.He attended schools in Philadelphia and Oxford, Pennsylvania. His family moved back to Philadelphia when he was 12. He graduated from West Catholic High School for boys in 1965. He was very active in sports; football, basketball and baseball. Baseball was his favorite and the one he excelled in the best.Charlie joined the Army in September 1965 and spent three years in Germany. He was an MP and guard dog handler trained to guard missile silos. While serving in Germany he was scouted by the Philadelphia Phillies and signed to play for their farm team when he was discharged. He also traveled to Ireland on leave, where he still had relatives.In March 1969, he was transferred back to the States and stationed at Fort Carson. During his last six months in the Army, he played baseball for the Army. They played all over the state, including the convicts at the State Penitentiary in Canon City.On September 6, while on a weekend trip to Denver, he met his future wife, Gina, driving down East Colfax with his buddy John Kelley. Gina and Charlie were married two months later, on November 22, 1969 in Denver, Colorado.In the summer of 1970, they moved to Philadelphia and a year later in August, 1971, they welcomed their first son, Christopher George. They moved back to Denver in 1972 after the death of Gina's dad.Charlie worked as a carpenter until 1975. He was employed by The Hoover Company as a service tech. In March, 1976, they welcomed daughter, Stacey Denise. Later that year he joined the sales force at The Hoover Company. In December, 1978, he was promoted to District Manager and transferred to Fort Collins, Colorado. In April, 1979, they welcomed another son, Brendan Patrick. While District Manager, he traveled to Northern Colorado, all of Wyoming and Western Nebraska. In February, 1983, they welcomed their third son, Devin Reilly.Charlie left The Hoover Company in 1986, and was hired by Waste Management as a salesman. In 1995, he was transferred to Pueblo and Canon City, Colorado. In 2002, he was transferred to Colorado Springs where he remained until he retired in 2013. He was very proud of the fact of having two main jobs in his life. He wasn't one for sitting around, so he had several part time jobs after retiring.Gina and Charlie just celebrated their 49th Anniversary.Last Tuesday, December 4, Charlie laid down to take a nap. He passed peacefully in his sleep.He is survived by his wife, Regina Gilligan; sons, Christopher Gilligan, Brendan Gilligan and Devin Gilligan; daughter, Stacey (Robert) Bradney; granddaughters, Katasha Bradney of Fort Collins, Kylee Bradney of Colorado Springs; grandsons, Robbie Bradney of Loveland, Dillon Bradney and Elijah Bradney both of Colorado Springs; great-granddaughter, Octavia Bradney; great-grandsons, Charlie Bradney, and Dean Harner; sister, Alice "Pat" Patricia (Rich) Penderghest of Southhampton, Pennsylvania; and brother, Donald (Kelly) Gilligan of Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania; nieces, Dawn Rehm of Philadelphia, Rose Quinn of Blackwood, New Jersey, Donna Gilligan of Dexel Hill, Cheryl Macchia of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Teresa Vickery of Larkspur, Colorado; nephews, Steve Quinn and Dr. Marcus Teter of Bozeman, Montana; brother-in-law, Gerry Teter Of Lakewood, Colorado; great-nieces, Marissa Rehm of Philadelphia, Alex Ibarra of Colorado Springs and Roxanna Vickery of Fort Collins; great-nephews, Justin Rehm of Philadelphia and Marcus Vickery of Larkspur, Colorado.Also, countless friends!Memorial Service, 10:00AM, Saturday, December 15, 2018, Faith Presbyterian Church, 1529 North Circle Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.Potluck Reception to follow, Overtime Sports Bar, 2809 Dublin Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80918.
