Obituary of Stephen Robert Clark

Stephen Robert Clark went to be with His Lord on December 6, 2018. He was born in Syracuse, New York on January 26, 1960 to Bob and Peggy Clark. He was born three months early and weighed only 2 pounds. He spent his childhood in upstate New York and then the family moved to the West coast. Stephen graduated from Orange Glen High School in Escondido, California in 1978. He pursued his love of geography at San Diego State University, first getting a Bachelors of Science, and went on to get a Masters at University of North Carolina. His first job was as a consultant that allowed him to travel to many cities in the United States. He loved to explore and see God's beauty in the diverse lands he visited. It was a passion of his to not be a tourist, but to get a "sense of place" (one of Stephen's favorite phrases). His job eventually took him to Colorado Springs. With the beauty of the Rocky Mountains, he knew it was time to change jobs and put down roots. His new job was working for Colorado Springs Utilities as an I. T. analyst. His keen mind for map-making allowed him to excel in this role for the last twenty-nine years. While attending a local Presbyterian Church, Stephen met the Love of His Life, Dayle. She shared Stephen's love for John Denver music, sports and traveling. They married on February 9, 1996. He found great joy in being a husband and being called "dad" by his stepson, Joshua. That spring, they moved into their new house in Colorado Springs. The following year they celebrated the birth of their son, Sean Stephen Clark.Stephen continued to pursue his passion for family and travel. Many trips were taken to visit Dayle's family on the East coast and his family on the West coast. Stephen had a hobby of trying to visit each county in America. These many trips to visit family allowed him to collect counties.Another hobby of Stephen's was genealogy, which included many trips to New England, hours at libraries and archives, and exploring historic cemeteries. He is proud of his Mayflower ancestry.A good education was important to Stephen and he supported the educational pursuits of his two brothers, his two sons and his nephews. In 2014, Stephen and Sean started attending Cheyenne Mountain Presbyterian Church. It was always important to Stephen to have fellowship with people that had a sincere relationship with Jesus, and he found that here at Cheyenne Mountain. As he grew in his relationship with His Lord and fellow parishioners, he was asked to be a deacon. Stephen humbly accepted this calling and found joyful fulfillment in serving God and the church.Stephen is preceded in death by his father and father-in-law. He is survived by his mother, Peggy; wife, Dayle; stepson, Joshua; son, Sean; brothers, Tim and David; nephews, Benjamin and Andrew; niece, Farrah; and many extended family members and friends.Celebration of Life, 6:30pm, Wednesday, December 12, 2018, Cheyenne Mountain Presbyterian Church, 4450 Westmeadow Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80906.Memorial contributions may be made in Stephen's memory to the Cheyenne Mountain Presbyterian Church Deacon's Mercy Fund.
