Obituary of Lt. Col. Robert Lyman Peake, USAF,

Our beloved father, Robert Lyman Peake, died on December 11, 2018 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.He was born on April 19, 1932 in Peoria, Illinois to parents George and Marion Peake. His siblings are Barbara Sleeth (Dec'd) and LaVetta Ricca. Robert received his education from Lincoln Elementary, Blaine Sumner Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High, and graduated from Manual High School Peoria, Illinois in 1951.His high school awards included HS Wigwam All American in 1951, Illinois Baseball Hall of Fame, Allstate Football and Baseball.He attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana and graduated in 1956 with a BS in Health, Physical Education and Recreation. Robert was awarded a football scholarship and was a member of ROTC and Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Robert worked as an Air Force Officer. He attended flight training at Graham AFB in Marianna, Florida and Webb AFB, Texas. He was on the first AFA football coaching staff under the tutelage of Buck Shaw (the Silver Fox) and then the second AFA coaching staff with Ben Martin (the Father of AFA Football). His overseas tours included Korea, Japan, Vietnam and Turkey. Robert's most notable positions include Beirut Lebanon; ROTC instructor at Evansville College in Indiana; Director of Personnel, Hancock AFB; and Career Progression ADC in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.Robert's interests and hobbies included golfing, hunting, and fly fishing. He was also a ski instructor for fifteen years. He also enjoyed singing and dancing. Robert enjoyed the people and places in Colorado Springs, especially the Blazers Ski Club, Pikes Peak Fly Fishing Club, and several golf courses. He loved Colorado because of all that it afforded in the way of outdoor activities including hunting and camping.Robert married Phila Louise Cole on December 29, 1956. He is survived and was the father of Debbie (Jack) Humphrey, Alison Kowatch and Roxanna "Roxie" (Ernie) Crawford; grandfather to Kris Kowatch, Robert (Kristi) Humphrey, Annie (Logan) Korn, Jonathan and Madeline Crawford; and great-grandfather to Jack Humphrey, III and Graham Korn; and brother to LaVetta Ricca.Robert was a vivacious spirit and was loved by his friends and family.Memorial Mass, 2:00PM, Friday, January 11, 2019, Air Force Community Chapel, 5134 Cathedral Drive, U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado 80840.
