Obituary of Daniel Joseph Odell

Daniel J. Odell, age 66, passed away on December 12, 2018 at home in Colorado Springs. Dan was born on September 19, 1952 in Evansville, Indiana to Joseph and Mary Odell. Along with his parents and two sisters, his family moved around a lot during his growing up years and he became the man of the house at the age of fourteen when his Dad passed away.Following in his Dad's footsteps, he worked professionally for the Boy Scouts of America for eighteen years. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout and spent many summers at Boy Scout Camp in various capacities. After his time with the Boy Scouts, he pursued a number of other career opportunities including Building Manager at Village Seven Presbyterian Church, Funeral Director at local funeral homes and in sales with Five Star Sanitary Products.Dan was married to Ruth for over forty years and they have two daughters, Monica and Carrie. Dan had many interests including camping, doing handy man projects around the house, running marathons, varied genres of music, being involved with his family and playing the drums (in his younger years).He was involved in various avenues of service including his local churches as Deacon, Elder and active member and in Rotary Club. Dan was active in his various churches over the years and his faith was an important part of his life.Dan fought a long, hard battle with Stage IV cancer that lasted just over 10 years. 2 Timothy 4:7-8, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day - and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing."He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Colorado Springs; his two daughters, Monica (David) Wilkinson of Beaufort, South Carolina, and Carrie (Eric) Anderson of Orange City, Iowa; his six grandchildren, Emily, Rachel, Nathan, Samuel, Natalie and Naomi; his two sisters, Karen Kauffman of Murphysboro, Illinois, and Shirley Taylor of Panama City Beach, Florida; and several aunts, two nephews and one niece and their families.
