Obituary of Patrick Tracy Brunk

Pat left this world to be with his Lord and Savior of 48 years Jesus Christ. He passed due to complications with Crohn's disease. His great legacy is being carried on by his wife Laurie of forty years, his kids Matt & Amy, Ryan & Kaitlyn, and Kyle; his sisters Kathy and Christy; his two grandsons Michael (2 years old) and William (6 months).Patrick Brunk was born in Lawrence, Kansas and was the grandson of a farmer and the son of a man that never turned down a hard days work. He was the second of three children and the only boy to Martha Jane and Jerald Brunk. After living in Leavenworth, Kansas for the majority of his elementary school years, Pat and his family moved to Littleton, Colorado in 1968. Shortly after Pat attended a Baptist church with his family where he made the decision that defined his entire life and would have a lasting effect on every Brunk generation since, he accepted Christ as his personal savior and chose to make Him, Lord of his life. Pat attended Arapahoe High School and was a member of FCA and lettered in both Track and Football, graduating in 1974 before heading off to Arizona State University. While attending ASU, Pat became heavily involved in his fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon and Young Life. It was through his connection to Young Life that he met the love of his life, Laurie Sexton. She would say many times throughout the years that Pat was the most fun guy she had ever met. Pat and Laurie got engaged in the Summer of 1977 at Young Life's Silver Cliff Ranch. They married on March 3, 1979 in Scottsdale, Arizona. They moved to Keystone, Colorado where Pat was the Lift Operations Supervisor for Arapahoe Basin Ski Area. They spent three-and-a-half honeymoon years there before having their first son, Matthew, and moving to Colorado Springs in 1984. Two sons, Ryan and Kyle, followed while Pat began his career in the Sports Apparel industry, which continued throughout his life. His three boys were his pride and joy. He loved talking sports with them on a regular basis, specifically Denver Broncos football. His love of all sports trickled down to his three sons who all found success in one way or another in a multitude of sports. Pat's love of sports didn't stop with his sons. He was always engaged and active in all youth sports teams Matt, Ryan, and Kyle played on. Pat went as far as coaching several baseball, soccer, hockey, and basketball teams, a few of which won a championship or two! By the time each respective son hit high school and participated in varsity sports, he found his greatest joy and pleasure; seeing his offspring compete and challenge themselves constantly in the sporting world. From the biggest games against cross town rivals to the smallest scrimmage against their own team, Pat was always in attendance cheering his three sons on. When each of his son's left home to attend CSU, he and Laurie finally had their remaining years to love and grow closer, as they together began to deal with his progressive illness of Crohns's disease. His health began to decline, but his spirit and faith grew, as each day he trusted and thanked the Lord for His many, many blessings, especially those of his sons, their wives, precious grandsons and that of his close brotherhood with fellow Christian men. Pat's life story was one of redemption, one of love and dedication to his work and friends, but especially to his family whom he faithfully loved and served until the end.We will greatly miss his loving influence in each of our lives, but know he is now whole, redeemed and worshiping in the presence of his savior.Celebration of Life, 10:30AM, Saturday, January 19, 2019, Woodmen Valley Chapel - Rockrimmon Campus, 290 East Woodmen Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80919.
