Obituary of Msgt. William Donald Diestler, U.S. Army,

William Donald Diestler was born April 4, 1938. He was born and raised in Wisconsin and began his journey as a grown up serving his country by joining the Army at a young age. He was devoted to not only his family, but to his country and he endured what many have not. He served as an artillery specialist in the Vietnam War, as well as in the Korean War. After twenty-nine years, he retired in Lawton, Oklahoma and enjoyed the simple things in life. William loved his family beyond words, but he also enjoyed hunting with his two Springer Spaniels, fishing, and this goes without saying, his Green Bay Packers. Football was one of his many joys and even to his last day he went to sleep for the last time with the sounds of football in the background and the voices of his loved ones telling him how much he was loved, how much he will be missed, and how he saved a family who had already endured much pain.William was the type of man that never complained about anything or anyone around him. He lived honest and devoted. He always put others wants and needs before his own. He had the type of humor that would make you laugh with a few simple words. He liked to sit outside in the sun and just enjoy the outdoors. He never asked for anything, he never wanted to put more work unto others if he could do it himself. On January 9, 2019, William Donald Diestler ended his journey of life here in Colorado Springs surrounded by the people who loved him most. His beautiful soul, kind heart, and gentle voice will forever be missed, for the world has lost an amazing person, an angel so to speak. William Diestler or as our family knows him as, Big Daddy, will be laid to rest on January 15, 2019. May he Rest In Peace among the angels, and always watch over us, because we know he will.He is survived by his wife, Huim Diestler; daughters, Jillian (Bruce) Hartley and Joy Whittemore; and son, William Whittemore.Visitation, 4:00PM - 5:00PM, Tuesday, January 15, 2019, The Springs Funeral Services-North, 6575 Oakwood Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80923.
