Obituary of Donald "Don" Isaac VanDenBos

Donald Isaac VanDenBos, 89 years of age, passed away peacefully January 11, 2019 at his home in Colorado Springs. Don, the third of three sons (Alan and Merle), was born in South Dakota to Henry and Stella (Vreugdenhil) VanDenBos. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Gladys. Don was a man who loved the Lord and lived his life to honor and glorify Him. He was a kind, compassionate and gentle man, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He never met a stranger and loved telling others about Jesus. Retiring after 37 years with Rocky Flats Energy Company, where he worked as a security guard, he and Gladys enjoyed buying and selling antiques. They spent most weekends at garage sales collecting treasures. Don had a very large phonograph collection and a talent for refinishing furniture. They loved having garage sales! Don would strike up a conversation with everyone and could sell anything with his warm personality and knowledge of antiques. Their home overflowed with beautiful antiques from all of their travels and adventures. They moved often over the course of their marriage, but always immediately found a church and quickly made new friends. They have been active members of Vista Grande Baptist Church for many years. Playing games, going out to eat, traveling, attending grand-kids events, watching sports and "toodeling" around were all activities they could be found enjoying regularly. Don spent most of his childhood in Lafayette Colorado. Always an animal lover, in his early years he owned a small "zoo" of animals. He served in the Navy Reserves and was also a police officer in his early adult years. He was a talented basketball player and enjoyed tennis and water skiing. He loved all sports and was an avid Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies and CU Buffs fan. Don is also survived by Gladys' three children, Rebecca Sass, Daniel (Mila) Thorton and Peggy Sleeth; along with four grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. Also, from his first marriage to Carol Rockley, he is survived by his four children, Allan (Donnita) VanDenBos, Kristy (Gerry) Zordel, Ann (Rich) Andelfinger, Paul (Melissa) VanDenBos; along with fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. His family is confident that Don is with his Lord and Savior, free from his earthly "tent" and present with the Lord. His body and mind are completely healed and he is resting at peace in his eternal home. We rejoice knowing he was greeted with "well done, good and faithful servant!"Celebration of Life, 10:00AM, Friday, January 18, 2019, Vista Grande Baptist Church, 5680 Stetson Hills Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80917.
