Obituary of Eunice "Jean" Van Sickle

Eunice "Jean" Van Sickle, 89, of Colorado Springs, Colorado�suddenly died Friday, February 1, 2019 while recovering from a broken hip.�Jean was born on February 28, 1929 in Norwich, Norfolk, England, daughter of the late Robert Richard Wright of Norwich, Norfolk, England and the late Elizabeth McCurry Wright of Belfast, Ireland. Jean attended East Anglian School for Girls, Bury St. Edmund's, graduated from Norwich High School for Girls in Norwich, Norfolk, England and attended Norwich Women's College.�Jean had one brother, Richard Wright of England and one sister, Denise Senior of Texas who predeceased her.On June 6, 1947 Jean, accompanied by the Norwich Press, met the first American reconnaissance plane to fly to Marsham Air Field which was flown by Lt. Earl R. Van Sickle of Minot, North Dakota. After a whirlwind courtship of seven days, Lt. Van Sickle returned six months later to Norwich, Norfolk, England to marry Jean Van Sickle on December 18, 1947. They were married for sixty-seven years.��Jean and Earl had three children, Guy (Mary) Van Sickle of Bismarck, North Dakota, Deborah (Joe) Van Sickle-Halbeisen of Durango, Colorado and Major General Paul (Glenda) Van Sickle, USAF, (Ret.) of New Smyrna Beach, Florida. She has seven grandchildren, Gwen Askew, Amanda Henry, Nick Van Sickle, Daniel Van Sickle, Robert Van Sickle, Steven Van Sickle and Scott Van Sickle; and seven great-grandchildren, Melissa, Janessa, Theo, Isabella, Colton, Nickolai, Michael; and many nieces and nephews.Jean was a homemaker, a military wife and a professional photographer. She and Earl (Colonel, USAF) spent twenty-three years in the United States Air Force living in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, North Dakota, London, England, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Nebraska, South Dakota, Alabama and Washington, D.C. and Woodbridge, England. Upon Earl's military retirement, they continued living in Ipswich, England for seven years before returning to the United States where they made their home for a while in Colorado Springs. Life soon took them to San Antonio, Texas for eighteen years and upon Earl's final retirement back to Monument, Colorado.Jean enjoyed being a stay-at-home mother while her children were young but soon branched out while living in�Washington, D.C.�to work as a professional photographer for a Virginian photography studio.�She was a member of the Daughters of the British Empire, Air Force Wives Club, Retired Air Force Wives Club, and volunteered as a Gray Lady for the Air Force Base hospitals.
