Obituary of Judy Ogier
Judy (Griffin) Ogier passed away March 10, 2019 following a long battle against Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. She was born April 16, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois to Manford "Fred" and Maxine (Comer) Griffin. Judy moved with her family to Ottumwa when she was very young and graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1962. On July 4, 1964 she married Ken Ogier. Together they followed his Air Force assignments to Austin, Texas; Athens, Greece; and Grand Forks, North Dakota before returning to Ottumwa to raise their two daughters. Judy worked in the office at John Deere Ottumwa Works before devoting all of her time to her family. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and actively supported her daughters' schools and their many activities. Capitalizing on her talent for meticulous sewing, Judy then owned and operated a custom window covering business. She later worked with a group of friends at the Southeast Iowa Blood Center. During their retirement, Judy and Ken enjoyed traveling as their daughter's families lived in various locations throughout the country. In 2008, she and her husband moved permanently to Colorado Springs to enjoy more time with their youngest grandchildren. There, they appreciated the friendship of many people in their neighborhood, at the Briargate YMCA, and in Mass at St. Clare Chapel. Judy especially cherished her fun lunches with friends, neighborhood Costco dinners, and couples' trips to Estes Park. She and her husband also loved their travels to Ireland that included friends from home. With five wonderfully fun and accomplished grandsons, Judy finally delighted in showering a granddaughter with her love and attention. Two canine granddaughters, Scout and Miss Honey, will miss her love and treats as well.Judy's surviving family includes her husband, Ken; their daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Allen Husted of Gainesville, Virginia and Stacy and Wes Thurman of Colorado Springs; and six grandchildren, Jake, Alec and Sam Husted and Grant, Will and Claire Thurman. She is survived also by her brother, Mike (Lori) Griffin of Goshen, Indiana; and her sister, Barbara Walters of Des Moines, Iowa. Judy's father, mother, and sister, Janet Bowman, preceded her in death.Judy and her family relied on the knowledge, guidance, and friendship of the doctors, nurses, and researchers at National Jewish Health in nearby Denver. National Jewish Health leads the nation in its understanding and treatment of lung diseases, so she asked us to consider a donation to them (www.nationaljewish.org) in her honor to support such important work.Visitation, 9:00AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00AM, Monday, March 18, 2019, St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 8755 Scarborough Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80920.
