Obituary of 1Lt Amy Denise Gillilan, U.S. Air Force
1Lt Amy Gillilan passed away unexpectedly in Colorado Springs on the afternoon of March 14, 2019. Amy is now at peace with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She will forever be with us in our hearts and minds. Amy was born and raised in Georgia where she attended Hazel Green High School, graduating in the class of 2002. She enlisted in the Air Force in March of 2003 and attended Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. Her first assignment was at Charleston Air Force Base as a Command Post Controller, deploying to both Kuwait and Iraq.In 2008 Amy attended the Enlisted Aircrew Fundamentals course as well as Initial Flight Attendant course in Medina, Texas. She then served as an Executive Flight Attendant from 2009 - 2012 at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. In March of 2012 Amy was selected for the rigorous Presidential Flight attendant course where she sharpened her culinary skills through an advanced culinary school in Fort Lee, Virginia. Upon selection, Amy joined the presidential team during President Obama's re-election campaign. She spent four years serving aboard Air Force One, working her way up to the forward galley cook, responsible for planning and preparing the president's meals.While serving aboard Air Force One, Amy was able to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from the American Military University allowing her to attend Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. Upon commissioning as a Second Lieutenant, Amy was stationed at Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado where she held several positions to include Acquisition Program Manager, Chief of the Commanders Action Group for the 50th Mission Support Group and Acting Chief of Protocol. Amy treasured her military career dearly. Additionally, she enjoyed cooking, country dancing, ice skating and her physical fitness. She was a wonderful daughter and friend to so many. Amy is survived by her loving family and friends. Amy has been selected as a candidate to be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia.
