Obituary of Robert Donald Grinnell, Sr.
Robert D. Grinnell, Sr., age 86, died Friday, March 29, 2019 at the Parkmoor Village Healthcare Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado after two months of his health failing rapidly, he passed away peacefully. Robert was born in Revere Beach, Massachusetts on November 2, 1932 and grew up as the youngest of six children in Hyde Park, Massachusetts. After a year playing football at Northeastern he played semi-pro baseball for a farm league and was close to becoming a major league baseball player when he was drafted. He joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War.He worked as a field engineer at the Atomic Test Site in Las Vegas, Nevada and was a contractor in Nevada, Colorado, Texas and in Florida. He retired at 72 as an ICBO inspector for an engineering firm in Las Vegas, Nevada before returning to Colorado Springs, Colorado as his final resting place. Robert participated in ice hockey, football, baseball, and was a downhill skier. He loved watching sports on TV and was a lifetime Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan.Robert was a strong man that cared more about others than about himself. Even during his final moments, he was continuously concerned about his family's well-being and the state of this country. He was born a patriot and died a patriot. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary May Grinnell and Harold B. Grinnell; siblings, Doris Magnin, Harold B. Grinnell, Jr., Ethel Dale, Millie Figel and William Grinnell; and his children, Robert Grinnell, Jr. and Summer Carrizzo.Robert is survived by his sons, Rolan Grinnell of Parowan, Utah and Randel Aleman of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren, Greyson Grinnell, Aaron Grinnell, Jonathan (Michaela) Grinnell all of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Dylan and Adrian Grinnell of Parowan, Utah, Randal, Taylor and Kolten Aleman of Las Vegas, Nevada and Zion Anglen of Cottonwood, Arizona; great-grandchild, Alexis Grinnell of Colorado Springs, Colorado; former wives, Joy Faith Ashley of St. George, Utah and Susan Ann Tucker of Amity, Oregon; and several nieces and nephews.Graveside Service, 11:00AM, Friday, April 12, 2019, Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80925.
