We first met Habib and Virginia when they visited us in Kandahar before their marriage. Habib was introducing her to his family and home town before she made her final decision. Later we stayed with them in their home where he was governor, and enjoyed a lovely picnic by a stream with carpets and samovar, as only Afghans can do it. Many years went by before we met again and that was in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan where we worked together under STLI. We so appreciated Habib's gracious manner, his humble spirit and wonderful sense of humor. I am glad he had good years with his beloved family more recently in the States and rejoice that Habib is now with the Lord he loved and served. I am praying for the family in this time of loss. I think he and my husband are now praising the Lord together.

I became acquainted with Habib through Virginia. I worked with her several years at OJC and she trained me as her replacement. I learned to love them both. I always remember Habib as a quiet dignified man with a twinkle in his eye. He was always welcoming and shared his love for God and his passion for people. I grieve for your loss and am grateful that he was my friend. Denise Root

We were so blessed to be part of the team in Kyrgyzstan when Habib and Virginia lived there. They were such a wonderful example of lives given to the Lord, eager to use even their retirement years to share Christ with the people around them. It was also a joy to help pray and support the process for their 2 adopted grandchildren. Habib will be greatly missed here but we look forward to more stories in Heaven! Joe and Denise

Hi Jacquelyn, I am hoping this message reaches you. My late father has a picture with your late husband in Kandahar. I wondered if you recalled my father Karim Hakimi. All the best. http://www.meridian.org/insmallthingsremembered/america-participates-in-afghan-aviation
