Obituary of Murl Anna Lorrig

Murl Anna Lorrig, 86, of Black Forest, Colorado, passed peacefully into glory on May 6, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 6, 1933, in Mattoon, Wisconsin to Emma (Barth) and Edward Schilcher, Murl lived in Antigo until she was diagnosed with Tuberculosis as a young adult. At that point, she went to receive medical treatment at Lake Tomahawk State Camp. While she was recovering there, Murl met the love of her life, Raymond Joseph Lorrig, and they were wed in 1956. They resided over the years in Madison and Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; Davenport, Iowa; Hendersonville, Tennessee; and Black Forest, Colorado.Creating a lovely home and life for her husband and children was the joyful endeavor Murl embraced throughout her lifetime. Her dedication to family was only surpassed by her devotion to God. Her constant desire to share the love of His son, Jesus, to the world, enabled her to open both heart and home to provide daycare and respite care for special needs children; housing, care, and mentoring for unwed mothers; and providing generous accommodations for friends and relatives in need throughout her life. The love and prayers she extended on behalf of others has left powerful resonance in the lives of many. As an avid gardener, Murl worked diligently against the forces of nature to create a beautiful landscape oasis at her Black Forest retirement home where she continued to welcome family, friends, and strangers. She was an enthusiastic reader and was actively interested in socio/political issues. Worship music inspired her, and she enjoyed being a member of New Life Church for over twenty-five years. In more recent days, she found comfort in her favorite shows on the Hallmark Channel. Her grandchildren fondly remember her delicious Christmas cookies and may have even been able to enjoy them in July as she often put extra batches in the freezer in anticipation of their visits. Murl was a generous and wise soul, a model of the biblical Proverbs 31 woman. "Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 'Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.' " (vs. 28-29)She is preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa Ann; granddaughter, Victoria England; her parents, Emma and Edward Schilcher; and siblings, Marlyn Schilcher, Laverne Rygiewicz, Emerson Schilcher, and Lyle Schilcher.Murl is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Raymond Lorrig; her children, David (Donna) Lorrig, Katherine (Jeffrey) Smathers, Geralyn (Keith) Steppe, Mary (Allen) Cochran, Anne (Jeffrey) Rutter, Linda (David) Rawle, Victoria DeBellis and Donald England; her grandchildren, Jeremiah Lorrig, Merry (Derek) McKee, Nathanael Lorrig, Diana Lorrig, Gabriel Lorrig, Daniel (Jessalyn) Lorrig, SarahRose Lorrig, Katelin Smathers, Emily (Nathan) Lacey, Joel Steppe, Ariana Steppe, Sarah Steppe, Joshua Gilbert, Kayla Davis, Briana Rutter, Matthew Rutter, Andrew Rutter, Elena Rawle, Natalie (Stephen) Brown, Elijah Rawle, Marissa DeBellis and Daniel DeBellis; and great-grandchildren, Kenley and Cayson McKee, Mikylah and Kayden Lorrig, Hannah, Finn, and Clara Lacey, Bella and Rose Davis; and her brother, Melvin (Marilyn) Schilcher.Memorial Service, 2:00PM, Thursday, June 6, 2019, New Life Church World Prayer Center, 11025 Voyager Parkway, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80921.Memorial contributions in Murl's memory may be made to New Life Church; International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, 30 North LaSalle Street Suite 4300, Chicago, Illinois 60602; or the charity of the giver's choice.
