Obituary of Sadie Jean Gladden
Sadie Jean Gladden, 76, died Monday, June 24, 2019 at her home in Colorado Springs. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother who had retired from the Colorado State Department of Corrections. She was also an active member of People's United Methodist Church for over fifty-five years.Sadie was born September 30, 1942 in Reed City, Michigan to the late Limmie and Annie Mary (Brinkley) Powell. She was the seventh of eight children born to this family. She grew up in Arkadelphia, Arkansas and graduated from Peake High School in Arkadelphia in 1961. Sadie graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business and Technical Management from Denver Technical College, she then went on to receive her Master's degree in Human Resources Management from Colorado Technical University.Sadie soon married and raised a family. She was a State of Colorado Notary Public and was a Law School Notary in 2001. Sadie worked at the Zebulon Pike Detention Center and during her service there, received numerous commendations and accolades for her long career as an Administrative Assistant. She received the State of Colorado Distinguished Service Award of twenty years and the NAACP Committee Award and was on the Freedom Fund Committee. Sadie also received the 1993 Peak Performance in Government award from Gov. Roy Romer.She was a member of the Red Hat Mamas, B.P.O.E. - Elks Lodge No. 473, a life member of Columbine Temple 1053 and served her church community at People's United Methodist Church for many years on various committees and boards. She loved to travel and play Pinochle.Sadie is survived by her children, David Eugene Gladden and Tangy Denise Gladden. Also surviving are her sisters, Betty (Robert) Nelson of Arkadelphia and Zelma Walker of Richmond, Virginia; and her half-brother, Willard Reed. She has three grandchildren, Champale Gladden, Anthony Gladden and Jumall Watkins; and four great-grandchildren, Taevon Gladden, Adina Gladden, David Gladden, and Reana Gladden.Reflection, 10:30AM, Friday, June 28, 2019, The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.
