Obituary
Obituary of Virginia Lee Murray
Virginia "Gina" Lee Murray, 79, of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed on August 5, 2019 at her home.Virginia was born to William and Dorothy Gates on August 13, 1939 in Denver, Colorado. She attended Denver Christian High School where she participated in Student Government as a Secretary. She graduated in 1957.Virginia went on a blind date in October of 1956 with Donald Murray. After dating for two years, they were married on October 24, 1958 at Virginia's longtime place of worship, Second Christian Reformed Church in Denver, Colorado. The couple moved to San Diego, California after Donald joined the Navy. During this time, Virginia worked at the Dairy Council of California. In 1965, they moved back to Denver and adopted a daughter, Kelly. Two years later, they added to the family by adopting a son, Donald "Scott", in 1967. The family moved to Phoenix, Arizona where Virginia gave birth to daughter, Melissa, in 1971. In 1979, another daughter, Jennifer, was born. Virginia's family then moved to Belen, New Mexico before they moved back to Colorado, settling in Colorado Springs. At this time, Virginia worked for Shepherd's McGraw-Hill until they closed. Next, she worked at New Horizon's Computer Learning Center until she retired. She leaves as her legacy, three children, Kelly Phillips, Scott Murray and Jennifer Mitchell; four grandchildren, Tauni Hofmann, Camron Bitzer, Hayden Morris and Jonathan McLaughlin; three great-grandchildren, Alexis Fitzwater, Jadden Fitzwater, and Jenna Hofmann; and one great-great-grandchild, Aubree Fitzwater-Duszynski.She also leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Donald Murray; and three siblings, Judy Potts, John Gates and Randy Gates.Virginia was preceded in death by her daughter, Melissa McLaughlin; and her brother, Dale Gates. She will be remembered for her warm, gentle and caring soul. She was the center of her family and everyone gravitated towards her. She loved to sing, even though she said she wasn't any good at it. You could almost guarantee that you'd hear a song during your visit to her home. Whether it was a good old hymn, Vince Gill, Randy Travis, or her favorite, K.T. Oslin, her family would wait in anticipation to see what she would sing that day, usually with phones ready to record! Friends of the family that would come to visit would never call her "Virginia" or "Mrs. Murray", she was always "mom" to everyone, and made them feel at home. Our family would like to thank everyone for all the prayers, love, and support that we have been receiving during our time of mourning.Memorial Service, 12:00PM, Friday, September 20, 2019, The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.
