Obituary
Obituary of Ronald Edward Johnson
Ron was born at the end of the great depression and the beginning of World War II on December 27, 1938. His parents were Hollie and Ruby Johnson. He had an older brother, Carl, and an older sister, Alta Mae. There was another older sister, Maxine, that passed away in infancy. Ron passed away on September 1, 2019 at the age of eighty years.Ron spent the first twenty years of his life on the family farm and ranch at Karval, Colorado. His father was a successful wheat farmer during the 40's and 50's, so farm life was his background. After his mother passed away in 1959, his father set up a trust for Ronnie and enrolled him in a school for children with special needs at Grand Junction, Colorado. This turned out to be a wise decision as Ron learned to work and be a dependable and responsible individual. He was at this location for several years. Ron was then brought to Colorado Springs under the supervision of Cheyenne Village. Under their guidance, he was able to live in a group home and at times in his own apartment. Most of his employment was with Goodwill. His reports indicated he was not a fast worker, but very dependable. It was amazing how well he remembered the bus routes and could navigate his way around Colorado Springs. One day my wife and I were in the Springs and saw him standing on the corner of Powers and Galley. We stopped to say hello and ask where he was going. He said he was on his way home. We told him to get in and we would take him. When I asked him where to go he pointed West on Galley. I asked him twice where I needed to turn and he would answer "just a little further." Finally he said "just let me out here." We never did get to see where he lived.Ron leaves in passing his brother, Carl Johnson; a niece, Kathy Galleon; and many cousins. We would like to express the families appreciation to Cheyenne Village and Silver Key for their care of Ron over the years. We feel the quality of his life was good. He enjoyed working and especially having money to spend. His smile and good humor will be missed.Visitation, 1:00PM-2:00PM, Funeral Service, 2:00PM, Wednesday, September 18, 2019, The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.
