Just saw this online and it brings tears to my eyes all the accomplishments John had while still being such a dedicated father and grandfather. I know Walker will remember granddaddy with such love and fun memories. Olivia is enjoying him firsthand now. John's gentle nature, silly humor and overall kindness will live in my memories. Prayers for your continued peace and comfort. I know Walker will look forward to a visit to CO when he is well and hope you all had a special time. Erica

I worked with John at USDA OIG. He was hilarious and sure did love an Excel spreadsheet. While traveling with John, he would vividly recount tales from his flying days and I could tell how much he loved it. A conversation never went by without mention of Walker's latest doings and a scroll through his picture gallery. I could tell he was a good grandpa. John frequently used movie references in our conversations, and could tell me all about the movie, the actor, and the year the movie came out. And most of all, John came prepared for audit fieldwork. He always had an extra bag with a power strip, a computer mouse, power cords, you name it. We would laugh at that bag, BUT somehow, we always ended up using 75% of what was in that bag.

I am truly thankful that I knew John and he was a part of my life. He was my best friend and the only USAFA grad that I kept in touch with over the years. He was both a classmate and room-mate. Our juvenile sense of humor was first established at the Academy in order to get past the challenges of Academy life and later refined to express the finer points of everyday life. It was a true privilege to call him friend. God bless you, John. Brenda, Yehudi, Justus, and little Walker are all in my prayers. Jim Downs, USAFA Class of '71.
