Obituary of SSgt Jackson Thomas Wood, USAF

Jackson Thomas Wood, 23, died on October 25, 2019 in Caon City, Colorado. He was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs. He worked in the Area Dental Lab and loved his work there. Jackson was born in Amarillo, Texas on October 26, 1995, the fourth child of Theodore Lee "Ted" Wood and Paula Jean Piotrowski Wood. His first six years were spent in Canyon, Texas. He was adored by his sisters, Holly and Echo, and his brother, Daniel. At age six, Jackson moved with his family to Leander, Texas, an Austin suburb. There he attended Pleasant Hill Elementary School, Wiley Middle School and Rouse High School. At age 11, Jackson lost his mother in a car accident. They had been exceptionally close. For the next three years, Jackson lived alone with his father. But he was specially nurtured and loved by Kit and Creshel Allowitz and their three children who treated him as family. When Jackson was 14, his father married Jani Jo Maselli who quickly became a wonderful mother to Jackson. They shared a strong love. Jackson also became a big brother to Michael Mark and the pair developed an impenetrable bond.Jackson graduated eleventh in his class from Rouse High School in 2014. He was known as a brilliant student who befriended everyone. As his longtime friend, Hunter Lansford, put it, Jackson was friends with "the jocks, the band guys, the people who had no friends, and the popular kids - he was loved by all." Jackson loved sports - especially basketball, golf and skiing. He also ran three marathons - in Mississippi, San Francisco and Baltimore. (He ran the Baltimore Marathon with his father just six days before his death.) As a lifetime supporter of the underdog, Jackson was a huge fan of the Buffalo Bills. He was preceded in death by his mother, Paula Jean Piotrowski Wood; his grandmother, Florence Piotrowski; and his grandfathers, Eugene Piotrowski and Bradley Wood.Jackson is survived by his parents, Ted and Jani; his sisters, Holly Wood Jennings and Echo Danae Wood Harris; his brothers, Daniel Payne Wood and Michael Adrian Mark; a brother-in-law, Echo's husband, Russell; a sister-in-law, Daniel's wife, Nikki; two grandmothers, Patricia Wood and Norma Maselli; and several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.
