I have trouble believing that Uncle Ken is gone. It was just yesterday that he and Lowell, his older brother, traveled all the way to Scottsdale to see my brother Ken, who was named after Uncle Ken, and encourage him in his fight against cancer. Seeing Uncle Ken, Uncle Lowell, my dad Jack Ricketts, and brother Ken-all war vets but from different wars-get together and share the deep bond that only people who have gone through combat can understand, was a revelation. It was a huge boost to Kenney, who was overjoyed that his uncles would come all that way to visit him. I remember attending Uncle Ken's graduation from West Point and the thrill of meeting Aunt Margaret. Uncle Ken's tour of West Point made a big impression on me, and until my early teens I was determined to be like my uncles (and dad) and make the military my career when I grew up-until Ken's cousin and best friend Avon pricked an interest in medicine, and I decided that being a healer was for me. Or so I thought. The dream of going to med school went up in smoke with a C- in freshman chemistry. I'll never forget, many years later, the fun I had visiting Uncle Ken and Aunt Margaret in Lubbock (where Buddy Holly was born!), and Ken's driving me to Earth, Texas in his Cadillac to show me firsthand my Hite roots. As we got older, we stayed in touch by periodic telephone calls. Uncle Ken had worked intensively on US-Japan relations at the Pentagon, and I discovered a broad area of common interests-where Ken was the expert. Together with all who knew and loved him, I mourn his passing and will miss his warmth, kindness, and humor. Our heartfelt condolences to Aunt Margaret, Suzee, Holly, Doug and all the Hite family. He was one of my Dad's best friends and cousins. We called him uncle and enjoyed some of my favorite memories in the CO mountains with him & his family. Thanks for the wonderful memories and I am comforted knowing you are with Dad again.

I had the honor and privilege to meet Col Hite a few times. He was kind and had great fighter pilot tales. He led a life of service to family, God and country and was a true patriot. A fighter to the end, he will be missed. Revered and respected undoubtedly by those who knew him. God speed ❤️

Ken Hite was what we called a favourite uncle. I knew him as a cousin and best friend to my father, and grew up always looking up to uncle Ken. He was always kind and spoke with a familiarity that put me at ease. He had a great sense of humour and we loved to joke around, as well as talk seriously, deeply and heart to heart. He had a soulful look in his eyes, typical of the Attaway decendents. Ken had a simple and profound faith that always inspired me. His entire existence was very much larger-than-life. We all knew he was a military hero, a man of prestige and a high class citizen. I have a particular memory of visiting him long ago and the rest of the Hite family when they lived in the Washington DC area. He worked in the Pentagon and took me right into the offices (in the Pentagon!) to show me where he worked. It was very impressive to a young 14-year-old cousin visiting from afar. He could be a strong military man one minute, and a guy who could enjoy fishing or horseback riding up in the mountains of Colorado with his best friend Avon the next. Ken was an exemplary role model and a family pillar. I shall never forget his kindness at my father (Avon's) memorial. They were both tough old guys, gentlemen, mannerly and made of steel. They simply don't make them like they used to! I shall miss him and one day look forward to seeing him again on the other side, with all those we have loved and lost. Until we meet again, I love you uncle Ken. Again I send my love and deepest condolences to Aunt Marg, cousins Suzee, Doug, Holly and all the rest of the Hite family. Love always, Fontaine Waite (Fon) Kitchener, Ontario, Canada

My Uncle Ken had a great love for his immediate and extended family - as a part of his family I remember the fun we all had getting together during holidays, birthdays, big and small family reunions, and during the times we gathered for no special reason at all other than the opportunity to visit and catch up with each other's lives. I will always remember our cross country trip from Virginia to Texas - Uncle Ken, me, the dog and all of our luggage smooshed into his tiny-but fun - little sports car - it was good company, good conversations and a few wrong turns along the way! It was quite the adventure! And Uncle Ken's love for his country was evident during his long and distinguished service in the military. An honor he shared with his brother Lowell and his sister Hazel's husband and my father, Jack - when the three warriors got together there was never a loss for conversation. Uncle, you will be missed - my heart will always love and remember you. And now I send my love to Aunt Margaret, Suzee, Doug and Holly. Grief is held in the heart and lasts longer than a year. But love is right there next to it - and it also lasts longer than a year. Love to you all, Paulan
