Obituary of James Allen Mortenson

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Clarence W. and Lillian E. (Frykman) Mortenson, James Allen Mortenson passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at his home in Colorado Springs. He was 80.Jim spent his early years in Minneapolis, Minnesota, graduating from Washburn High School in 1957 and the University of Minnesota in 1961. After two years of Graduate School at the University of Minnesota, he moved to Baltimore as a management intern with the Social Security Administration where he worked for fifty-four years. He served in the Army Reserves for several years when first arriving in Baltimore.�Jim and his former wife, Jeanne Anderson, had three sons, and Jim coached many of their little league teams in the Liberty Road and Yankee Rebels baseball programs, mentoring many young men in their formative years. Jim was an avid runner from his late 20's to early 40's, finishing hundreds of races including dozens of marathons and nine 50-milers, often winning age group awards. He also was a prolific reader, a recreational cyclist, and an environmentalist. Later in life Jim became active at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lutherville, Maryland, singing with both the traditional choir and the praise team. In February, 2019 he moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado to be closer to family.�Jim is survived by his brother, Robert Mortenson of Holmdel, New Jersey; sons, Daniel (Laura) Mortenson of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, Chris (Andi) Mortenson of Colorado Springs, Colorado and John (Laurie) Mortenson of Julian, North Carolina; as well as seven grandchildren, Charles, Marguerite, Harald, Andrew, Julia, Claudia and Thomas; and nieces and nephews.�Celebration of Life, 3:00PM, Thursday December 12, 2019, The Inn at Garden Plaza, 2520 International Circle, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910.
