Obituary of Therese Ann VanOverbeke

Therese Ann VanOverbeke (Vandenbroucke) was born to George and Philomena (Bultynk) Vandenbroucke in Detroit, Michigan on September 3, 1938. Therese wants to be remembered as a worldly traveler. She traveled to many foreign countries and all 50 states. She was a registered nurse and worked in ICU, at her friend Barbara Lee's office and finally retiring from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan. Her homes included the cities of Detroit, Roseville, and Southfield in Michigan; New York City; The Villages in Florida; and finally Colorado Springs, Colorado. There is no way to define Therese's lifea life that was filled with incredible memories and life lessons. Therese's love touched the lives of all who encountered her: family, friends and strangers from her many volunteer endeavors. If you met Therese, you became her family; and family was PRIORITY! A single mother, she became the mother of manyall our friends. She was the words of wisdom, the words of truth, no matter how stark. She challenged each of us and pushed us to be the best version of ourselves. She was a woman of tremendous humor and wit, she lit up every room she entered. She lived as a true christian woman with unwavering generosity. She showed love for all and taught us to do so as well. Her words of wisdom are engrained in us all: "You are a VanOverbeke and can do anything", "Pick your battles",and "If there isn't a way, make one!".Therese loved Jesus and Mary. She prayed constantly for her family and was devoted to the Blessed Mother. She traveled to Medjugorje and was forever changed. As her life drew near to the end, she prayed to God to bring her home. She truly felt she had lived a full and prosperous life and is now where she wants to be. So please celebrate with us in her reunion with her parents and God.Just as she lived life according to her terms; she died according to her terms. In October she entered into hospice to control her chronic pain. She promised her children to live to the holidays. True to her word, after celebrating Christmas with her family, she went peacefully and painlessly to our heavenly father on Christmas morning. She will be forever missed and never forgotten. Her legacy and the stories of her outrageous adventures will continue for generations to come. She left a piece of her in all of us. The world and the lives of all she knew is forever changed: more colorful, adventurous, truthful and loving.Therese is survived by her son, Michael John (Robyn Bourgeois) VanOverbeke of Detroit, Michigan; daughters, Maureen Elizabeth (Bruce) VanOverbeke-Hall of Golden, Colorado, Pamela Anne (Christy Garrison) VanOverbeke of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nine grandchildren, Ali Rose VanOverbeke, Bryce Hall, Jake VanOverbeke, Stephen Pagonas, Erik Hall, Jenny Broyles, Alexa Roberts, Joseph Bourgeois, Maxwel Bourgeois; eight great-granchildren, Isaac, Jackson, Joel, and Selah Hall, Olivia and Maxwell Pagonas, Bodhi and Melody Broyles; brother, Robert Vandenbroucke of Berkley, Michigan; and sister, Doreen (John) Maciarz of The Villages, Florida.Momma, Rest in Peace with Jesus and Mary!!Recitation of the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet, 7:00PM, Friday, January 24, 2020, Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2318 N.
