I can't believe it's been almost a year. While I lived in Japan, I met Jody through a community theater group that we both belonged to. I actually knew of her since we were both teachers and since her son was a student in the middle school where I taught. But it was really through the community theater that I got to know her well. She was ready for anything - and she was all in for fun. Jody laughed loudly and often and wore her heart on her sleeve. She was simply one of the sweetest and kindest people I have ever met. And even though our paths took her to Colorado and me to Virginia, I always considered her a dear friend and grieve her loss from afar. Thinking of Heath and Hunter as they navigate this first holiday season without her.

I remember this first time I meet Jody, she was so full of life and a smile that just filled the room and I thought wow, this lady is over the top happy. But as I get to know her, I loved when she came into the office as she always helped me to relax. I have missed her when she left Langley Elementary. I pray for Health and a Hunter for the loss of there rock. I know that Jody has earned her wings and will be watching over her men.

Jody was the biggest ray of sunshine i think i have ever seen. I don't think she ever met a stranger. Imagine being a 19 year old, newly married, and shipped off to a country you know nothing about because of a job/lifestyle you are equally as clueless about. And in steps Jody ☀️ I don't even know that we had been on Japanese soil long enough to have even brushed the Sea-Tac breakfast off our teeth yet & Jody had met us (how we even got connected initially i don't quite remember) at our hotel with this info-infused binder and her car ready to take us on an all-inclusive tour of the base. Showed us where everything was, told us ALL the ins and outs, had us laughing, & even asked another airman we passed walking along the flight line if he needed a ride too because that was just her style. I'd venture to say that like 98% of the Air Force community has been touched by Jody's light. Anyways, when the tour de la Yokota was over she literally gave us a stack of home essentials to hold us over until our stuff arrived and to spare us from having to spend too much money on the really low-quality BX stuff

I met Jody through my barista job and fell in love with her and Heath right away. Through getting to know her, I'd ask her about how she was doing and even sometimes through tears (from missing Heath so much when he wasn't home) she always had such a beautiful and positive way of looking at things. I know I was just a small part of her day but on some days, her warm friendly face was the highlight of mine. She will be missed by so many more people than she would ever imagine.

There are so many wonderful memories of Jody! She was always laughing and happy. She was very kind and went out of her way to include people. She was an incredible teacher and truly loved her students. We had a lot of fun teaching together in Alaska. We've both moved many times over the years, but always kept in contact. She was an incredibly loving wife and mother, her entire world revolved around Heath and Hunter. I will miss her dearly.

There are so many memories of Jody, her family and mine sharing beautiful, fun times together. Of course it goes without saying she had a smile that lit up her entire face, she could talk faster than anyone I have ever known, her laughter filled a room, and her loving ways are just a few things that immediately come to mind. My heart is broken now that we will no longer have Jody in our lives, BUT know she will always have a piece of our hearts. Love to Heath, Hunter, Cory, Tommy, Jamie, Reese, Emily and rest of her family and friends. Live your life as if there is no tomorrow and in honor of Jody every day.

Where to begin with memories and what ones to share. Jody and I met in Gray when her parents bought the camp beside mines. Oh we had amazing memories, our beginning summers involved OOB and Gray. I have a pretty good scar on my leg from an OOB adventure where we went bike riding down a hill and Jody said don't worry there are no bumps or rocks. 10 mins later we were trying to walk to her parents house with a pedal stuck in my leg. We oftened hiked through the woods at camp and one day we were making sandwiches I wanted bologna, she wanted ham and pickles and Kimy wanted peanut butter and jelly. We ended up with bologna, peanut butter and pickle sandwiches. Hahaha we might have made them a few more times because it was our creation. My childhood summers always involved Jody! She had such an impact on my life there was no way I would miss her wedding to Heath. He was all she ever talked about. I loved watching their adventures. One time I had a 6 hr layover in Anchorage and Jody and Heath picked me up and brought me back just so I didn't have to wait at the airport. That was who Jody was, if you knew her, your needs were always more than hers. Heath and Hunter, Corine, Tommy, Jamie and Reece you will always be in my prayers. If you ever need anything please know my family Rogers (or Farr's) will be there for you. We love you Jody. I know your dad is probably still hugging you and I know you will give Michael a hug from me. Thank you for always being an amazing example of how a friend should be

Jody I'm so sorry to hear of your sudden passing. Your light brightened any room you walked in. Your laughter would be infectious and we all would laugh until our sides hurt. Much love and prayers of strength to Heath and Hunter. Until we meet again my friend. Rest In Peace

Our connection started from Langley AFB soccer games, birthday parties, education mentor, long distance friend, Fairchild AFB, Medical Lake High school, to Graduations and farewell! You did a great job reminiscing about the past, living in the present, and excited about your future all at the same time and I hope I've learned that from you and can carry that optimism on with me! You are so loved and we will never forget you!! Love Melanie (country folk)

Jody, I may have not known you very well like many of your friends and family. But one thing I do know is that you were cherished by my Brother Heath and Hunter, you can see the live that you have had in all of the pictures that I've seen so far and what beautiful pictures. I do know that Heath cherished and smile a lot when he was with you, as kids growing up I've never seen my brother smile at all until I was looking at all of the pictures of the two of you together!! You will be missed very much and I know that the Lord is holding you in his arms.. RIP JODY WENDELL, BECKY, MARCUS, KAYDEN AND ETHEN HORTON

My Husband, Richard Finkle, and I met Jody and Hunter in 2005 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Heath was deployed at the time and connected to Kirtland Air Force Base there. We saw a young lady walking in the Anderson Hills housing developement with the cutest little boy. She stopped and we began to talk..That was our introduction to Jody and Hunter. We are originally from Massachusetts and she was from Maine..SWEET.. Another new neighbor was from Massachusetts. Thus began our close neighborhood link..Every evening that it was nice, at least 12 neighbors met to take a walk...We lived there for 3 years..Thanksgiving and July 4th at our house and everyones' birthday was a source for a party..mostly at Jody and eventually Heaths home..Spur of the moment barbeques at the Hortons were a regular surprise to Heath who always started the grill and never complained.. Nana Cameron was a regular visitor and we loved talking and giggling with her..Girls' nights out were arranged by Jody..Fish at Pappadeux and Comedy club events were on the menu...Easter was a blast..All the girls spent hours stuffing plastic eggs with candy for the Easter Egg hunts. My Richard looked as Heath as a son..Still does.. We are so full of Jody stories..Her aura and kindness will never be forgotten. We are heart broken. We love you Heath, Hunter and Nanny Cameron... Sharon and Richard Finkle

My relationship started long before Jody was born! I was college buddies with her Dad and Mom. It wasn't long after their college wedding they announced the anticipation of ‘Jody'! The time came, and out popped a beautiful baby girl. The day she was scheduled to come home from the hospital, her dad, Rick couldn't get out of his shift work as harbor patrol, so I had the pleasure of picking Momma and Jode up and delivering them home! One major problem, Rick forgot to leave us with a key! So, ... we broke in! Excitement started in Jody's life from day one! Her infectious personality was a gift from both her mom, the nurse and her dad, the cop! They were the center of our college gatherings, always a social scene. They were the first to reach out and console, share stories, make friends, friendships that last a lifetime! I tell you these ‘old' stories so you can see where Jody gets her infectious personality. It is truly genuine. She was taught it was the only way of life! We never lost touch over the years. Heath was reassigned to Hanscom AFB where I also worked. We were able to reconnect when Hunter was just a baby. While waiting for base housing, they crammed into our basement for a short time! Heath's career toured them all around the world where their friendships grew. The combination of military life and Jody's infectious personality was a winning formula! My husband and I traveled to Colorado this past summer. We reconnected and met for breakfast. It was great seeing Jody, Heath and Hunter after so many years. I must say, her personality never waivered, still the same bubbly Jody! Jody, there is no doubt you will be missed by your friends, but I know you are leaving a huge void in the hearts of you mom, Heath, Hunter, and Tommy. ❤️ May they reflect on all your beauty and cherish you in their hearts forever!

Jody was in my water aerobics class at the Y and she always arrived early, always smiling! I sat by her at our group lunches several times and she loved talking about her her college son. She told me about spending time with him and his girlfriend over the holidays and was sad when they left. I am really going to miss her in class. I had looked for her on Tuesday and wondered where she was. I'm so sorry to hear the sad news.

Dear Jody, I will love you to the end of the world and back forever as my friend and sister. This is the biggest hole I can't fill as there will never be another one like you. We will all continue to smile and spread laughter as you did effortlessly - that was your mission and it'll always be mine too. The world is 4.5 billion years old and how lucky was I to get into trouble and the many crazy adventures with you for the small time we're here together? We'll hold your family tight, all my love, Kristin
