Obituary of Lauretta D. Anzalone
Lauretta was born in East Carondelet, Illinois to Earl and Anne Eugea. She started a career in banking as a bookkeeper and teller. Because of her husband's career as a Meteorologist, they moved many times, living in different parts of the country. In 1968, being a homemaker with three young sons, she was diagnosed with Lupus. Little was known about Lupus at that time. They moved back to Maryland, where she worked a variety of jobs in her life to include real estate, a community college, and Parks and Recreation with the senior program. She even worked for a florist for a short time. Her marriage with L. David Drury eventually ended. When she least expected it, she met Richard Anzalone at a support group with "Parents without Partners". They married in 1989. After he retired from the NSA (National Security Agency), they had plans to move to Florida, but he became ill with cancer and died in 1990. Following the death of her husband, she spent the next couple summers in Colorado with her sister's family and decided to move there. She quickly became involved and joined the Austrian-American Enzian Club in Colorado Springs. In 1997 she had a major stroke which left her partly disabled. Even with her disability, she still believed in doing her part and keeping active as she served on the club board for eight years. In 2012, at the age of 80, Lauretta lost her home and everything she owned in the Waldo Canyon fire in Colorado Springs. Defeat was never an option with Lauretta. She rebuilt a handicap accessible home in the same spot as the "consumed home" that she loved so much. Lupus and her disability may have slowed her at times, but she never lost her enthusiasm to stay active and have a positive outlook on life. She will always be remembered for her love of life, and her love of dancing. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Anzalone; sisters, Eleanor Piot and M. Virginia Stroupe; brother, Wilbert Eugea; brothers-in-law, Orville Piot and Keith Stroupe.Lauretta is survived by sons, Brian (Jenni) Drury, Bruce (Barb Kindle) Drury and Craig Drury; granddaughter, Brianna Gonzales; grandson, Logan Drury; great-grandson, Evan Gonzales; stepdaughter, Nina Anzalone; sister-in-law, Jean Eugea; and many nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends.Celebration of Life Open House, 2-4PM, Saturday, February 8, 2020, Lauretta's home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A private Catholic Mass and burial will be held in Belleville, Illinois in April 2020.In lieu of flowers, donations in Lauretta's memory may be made to the Lupus Foundation. https://www.lupus.org/
