Obituary of Allen Dean Saxton, Sr.

Allen Dean Saxton Sr., born Lynn Allen Seggerman, was a husband, father, grandfather, businessman and friend. He was born in the Spring of 1949 in Denver. Allen was an ambitious and adventurous youth from a humble household. After swearing never again to rise a roller coaster after taking a ride with his dad on one at the age of 8, he curbed his adventurous nature for now and concentrated on his ambition. At the age of 9, Allen worked at the Star Barber Shop in Aurora sweeping up hair and shining shoes for a dollar a day.His ambition took him all the way through until he graduated from Hinkley High School in 1968. After high school his ambitiousness was once again reunited with his adventurousness.Joining the Navy in 1968, Allen spent brief tours of duty on both the USS Alamo and the USS Union. He even got to experience the time-honored tradition of being dunked into the ocean after crossing the equator. After the military, Allen married and had three sons, Johnnie, Dwaine and Joseph, whom he loved, but his restlessness and love of travel caused him to not remain in contact or be as close as he would have liked to be with his children. Sometimes even losing contact for years. During this time he traveled, had several jobs, and started several painting and wallpapering businesses trying to balance his love of travel with his ambition, but he realized there was still a piece missing. The missing parts were his family. Allen got a job as a long haul truck driver to aid in his search for family. He reached out to the children he had lost contact with, hoping that they would understand and forgive the decisions of the past years that caused his loss of contact with them.He knew nothing could make up for the loss, but like the leg lamp in his favorite movie, "A Christmas Story", it was awkward, it took some getting used to, but it was something that he really wanted.Allen's greatest ambition and his biggest adventure was trying to be a father again. Up until the time when his illness took him, he kept trying to reach out to those that he had lost contact with over the years. He enjoyed every minute that he spent with those who accepted him back into their lives and the lives of his grandchildren. Whether it was just chatting, telling stories, playing the Wii or playing silly pranks with the grandchildren, or just a quiet night, gave him pieces of a life that he had missed.Allen had come full circle in the end, he was with family and friends and had peace.LOVE YOU DADVisitation, 9:30AM-10:30AM, Funeral Service immediately following, 10:30AM, Wednesday, March 4, 2020, The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.Graveside Service, 2:30PM, Wednesday, March 4, 2020, Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area B, 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, Colorado 80235.
