Obituary of Clifford Wayne Attaway
Cliff was born in Lubbock, Texas to Laverne and Lavon Attaway on November 18, 1956. Following Lavon's engineering career, Cliff's earliest years were spent in Pampa and Bay City, Texas. After Lavon's passing, the family settled in Lubbock. "...And We Have Miles To Go" was the speech Cliff delivered for his graduating class as a National Merit Commended Scholar from Monterey High School, 1975. Cliff also graduated with honors from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, earning a B.S. Degree in Family Relations, 1979, and a M.Ed. in Early Childhood Handicaps, 1983. Cliff was also proficient in Greek studies. That same year, he married the former Kathleen Parks of Plainview, Texas. The couple began married life in Lubbock welcoming the first of three sons, each of whom he loved deeply. After Kathy's passing in 2004, Cliff married the former Katherine Martin Walker, of Arlington, Texas in 2006, adding four step-daughters whom he also adored. Cliff began his life of excellence, leadership, and service when he joined the Boy Scouts of America. Pinned by his mother, Cliff became an Eagle Scout at age 13, adding the Bronze Palm at age 14. He continued to serve in various leadership roles into his college years. At Monterey High School, Cliff served as Chaplain for the marching band, President of Morning Watch, Scout Council for Troop 404, and was co-founder of Explorer Post. Cliff was voted "Top Ten Plainsmen" his senior year. While on staff with Trinity Church in Lubbock, Cliff reached out to a group of young men, teaching spiritual, as well as practical lessons. Little did they know, these men were also about to learn to rappel from the Caprock of the Texas High Plains under Cliff's tutelage!Cliff ultimately turned his talents to retail management, managing stores in Cleburne and Big Spring, Texas for the Dunlap Co. In Big Spring, he was Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce business committee. Joining Stein Mart in 1992, Cliff manged stores in Alabama and Florida until he joined Marshall's in 1997. In 2007, he began to manage Mardel Christian and Education locations in Hurst, Texas and Colorado Springs, Colorado. Cliff delighted in outreach for the Mardel brand, and in helping individuals find the book or Bible translation that best suited the guest's felt needs. He particularly loved helping children. Cliff enjoyed skiing, tennis, camping, and especially hiking his beloved Colorado "14ners." Cliff served on The Territory neighborhood HOA board. He helped Grief Share groups at New Life Church in Colorado Springs. He held other volunteer positions at Gateway Church, Southlake, Texas and at New Life Church.
