Adelaide Queen Prechtl passed away quietly at her home at the Medalion Retirement Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado on April 9, 2020. She was 96 years old. She was born in Los Angeles, California in February 1924 to William Henry Evans and Essie Queen Thomas. Adelaide was married to Vincent Thomas Prechtl from June 9, 1945 until his passing in January 1992. Adelaide and Vincent had six children from 1946 to 1958. She also helped to raise Vincent's son, Daniel, from his former marriage. Her son, Andrew, passed away in 2003, as did her stepson Daniel. She leaves behind her other five children; twelve grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind two step-granddaughters (her step-grandson passed away in 2015); eight step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren. During World War II, Adelaide worked as a "burner" at the Long Beach Naval Shipyards, helping America in its time of need to produce Liberty ships to help the war effort, a position she was very proud of. Adelaide was also very active in such organizations as the Native Daughters of the Golden West for over fifty years, along with being a Camp Fire Girls group leader and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She loved the outdoors, camping, hiking, environmental issues, photography, and her family.Adelaide will be missed by her family and friends. We all take comfort that she is in the arms of Jesus, her Savior.
