Obituary of Karen Kay Hackworth
Karen "Nana" Hackworth, 72, was granted her angel wings on May 9, 2020 in her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado.�Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Karen had touched throughout her amazing and memorable life.Karen was born June 28, 1947, in Los Angeles, California to Wilbur and Dora Engel. Karen's family moved to Lynwood, California, a suburb of Los Angeles when she was a toddler, she lived in the same home until departing for college in 1965. She attended Lynwood High School, excelling in academics while leading a socially active life with her many friends. She continued her education at California Hospital School of Nursing, completing the program in June of 1968 and becoming a Registered Nurse. Karen went back to school to receive�her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Redlands and graduated in 1977, this was while Jennifer (first born child) was a young toddler.�Karen was a nurse full-time, but also enjoyed teaching aerobics part-time when Jennifer and Steve were young.She married her high school sweetheart, Tim Hackworth, on September 20, 1968.� Their first child, Jennifer, was born in August 1975 and their second child, Steve, was born in September 1978�both while they lived in Fullerton, California. She and Tim decided to move to Northern California in 1980 and bought property in Grass Valley, California.�They raised their family there where�Karen served others every day by working as a Registered Nurse for over thirty years at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital.�While Jennifer remained in California, Steve settled in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It was at this time she decided it was time to split time between California and Colorado.�Nana was the master planner of all family gatherings and vacations. She took great pride in helping others and spending time with her family.� � Karen loved her grandchildren so much; she would split her time alternating months between California�and Colorado.�She was such a loving and giving person, she always wanted to put other people first, her grandchildren taking the top spot. Karen was known for being a devoted wife and mother, a great nurse, a shoulder to cry on, a listening ear, a generous soul, a baby whisperer,�an amazing friend and having a talent for making others smile.�She loved spending time with friends and family and especially her recent trips to Dutch Bros with her grandchildren. Her kindness will be forever cherished by all that knew Karen.� Karen attended Trace Church in Colorado Springs and Bayside Church in Roseville and she also had a passion for donating blood to local blood banks.��Karen is preceded in death by her father and mother, Wilbur and Dora (Laehn) Engel.She is survived by her husband of fifty-one years, Tim Hackworth; children, Jennifer (Zack) McSweeney and Steve (Audrey) Hackworth; brother, Arlo Engel; grandchildren, Mia, Tanner, Jacey and Ryder; and numerous other cherished family members and friends.A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Karen's memory can be made to:Chinook Trail Elementary and Middle School Library by mailing a book that will be donated in Nana's memory to 9247 Rock Pond Way, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80924.�Books will be delivered to the principals once they are labeled.
