I remember so clearly, like it was yesterday, when my nephew Tom came with all us Smiths up to West Point to visit Ray, his cousin who was just a plebe. It was July and a beautiful summer day. They tossed a football around after lunch and seemed so free and happy. Sweet, kind, super intelligent, movie star beautiful young men who both died way too young. This picture is burned into my memory and will forever bring a smile to my face and a tear to my eye.

My sincere condolences for your loss. Please find comfort in the knowledge that God promises to end all suffering. Before long, God will wipe out every tear from our eyes, and "death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things (will) have passed away."(Rev. 21:3,4). May this promise from God give you comfort now and a real hope for the future. My deepest sympathy.

To Col Falzarano: I never knew who you were, but I feel like I knew you for ever. I am 67, you were only 47. In your short life you accomplished so much, more than us mere mortal. You made every member of your family proud and deservedly so. From my backyard in Merritt Island FL I just saw the launch of a SpaceX rocket, then I came to my computer to see how the rocket was doing; that is when I saw many of your Air Force buddies eulogizing you. I have never felt so much sorrow for a stranger, only God knows why. I served in the USAF from 1973 to 1977. I am very proud of it and I worked on Aerospace for 43 years until my retirement not long ago. Perhaps that is what bonded my feelings with you. I salute you Sir. Rest in peace and may God be with you and your family. Airman Sandoval

My heart is broken into a thousand pieces over Tom's early death. The world has been robbed of a very special person. I am so very proud to be able to call this wonderful, beautiful, intelligent man my nephew. Frank and I, his aunt and uncle, took Tom one lovely July weekend in 1988 to West Point to visit his cousin, "Ray," who was a Plebe. Tom seemed impressed with the military aspect of everything there. military aspect of everything there. When he graduated from Saugus High School and received an appointment to the Air Force Academy, we just knew he would excel there. He told me once, "I loved the place from the moment I arrived and came to appreciated the educational and military challenges during my four years there." Tom was a sweet, kind, considerate, smart person on every level. His family, extended family and military family have lost a true shining star. Now that star belongs to our universe and will shine forever on all who knew and loved him.
