Obituary of Lt. Col. David Reed Hundley, U.S. Air Force,

Lt. Col. David Reed Hundley, U.S. Air Force, (Ret.), age 69 years, died June 3, 2020 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.He was born January 5, 1951 in Sacramento, California to Ted and Marion Hundley and would later become an older brother to a sister, Sharon.Lt. Col. David Hundley retired from the Air Force after serving�a long and distinguished career of twenty-one years.�During that time, he was in Space and Missile Operations providing missile defense and satellite tracking�while stationed�in Missouri, Florida, North Dakota, Turkey, Norfolk, VA and Colorado.�� Dave was a graduate of San Jose State University, California where he was an ROTC recruit.�He was a gifted student with a unique mind for mathematics and a depth of understanding for complex calculations, which led him to earn three Master's Degrees.��Dave's military awards and decorations include: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with�two oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation�Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with�one oak leaf cluster,�Air Force Outstanding Unit Award�with two oak leaf clusters,�Combat Readiness Medal,�National Defense Service Medal with�one bronze service star, Air Force Overseas Short�Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with four oak leaf clusters, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and Air Force Training Ribbon.�His military education includes, Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College and Air War College, and he later went on to�teach at the Armed Forces Staff College. Dave's most significant assignment was at Whiteman Air Force Base where he met his future wife, Danita.�In the following years, Dave and Danita set about building a beautiful family by raising two children, Brett and Brooke.�Outside of the office, Dave found a place to unwind on the ball field.�Growing up, he played every sport he could, excelling as an athlete, which later in life led to softball leagues, volleyball teams,�racquetball,�basketball and golf tournaments. He won his share of trophies because�he came to win.�He�later turned�from player to coach for the next generation.��He loved to golf, read and watch horror and science fiction, and attend baseball games with his family. He often traveled with his daughter to see ballparks across the United States. In his spare time, Dave enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia and staying busy with crosswords and trivia to keep his mind sharp and active.He is preceded in death by his parents, Ted Wells and Marion Maxine Hundley;�and younger sister, Sharon Marie (Hundley) Heater.Dave is survived by his wife, Danita (Medina) Hundley; son, Brett; and daughter, Brooke.A Memorial Service will be held privately for the family.�A Funeral Service and Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
