Obituary of Ninetta Ione Vette
Just twenty-five days shy of her 100th birthday, Ninetta I. Vette left her temporary home here on earth and went to her eternal home in Glory. Ninetta was born in Oklahoma on July 4, 1920 to Eric Leon and Nettie Pearl (Shumate) Houtchens. In 1926, she moved with her parents and younger brother, Leon, to the Edison Community in Eastern Colorado. The family lived there until 1932 when they moved to Hinton, Oklahoma where Nettie's mother lived and where Ninetta's younger brother, Vernie, was born. In 1936, they moved back to Colorado, settling in the Hanover community. Here Eric farmed and stocked about 2200 acres in the heart of Hanover. Ninetta graduated from Hanover High School in 1939. In 1941, Ninetta married Claude "Bub" Fredrick Vette of Squirrel Creek. Being the wife of a cattle rancher/farmer and a good mother to her children was her delight and focus. She was a good cook, a good seamstress, and a particular housekeeper. Bub and Ninetta helped start the Ellicott Baptist Church and the Highway (Falcon) Baptist Church. Ninetta loved teaching Sunday School wherever she went and her greatest desire was that her children and grandchildren come to know Christ. Bub and Ninetta had a second residence in Denver for many years where Ninetta sent their youngest daughter, Darla, to Silver State Baptist School and worked making drapes. She moved back to Squirrel Creek in 1981. Shortly thereafter, Ninetta ran a catering business providing food for the Colorado Springs Auto Auction. For more than a decade, she provided exceptional food and was especially known for her pies. She was a member of the Zebulon Pike Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.Ninetta was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years; her brother, Leon Houtchens; her two sons, Ronald Vette and Rick Vette; and her grandson, Nathan Ackerman. Her daughter, Bonnie, joined her in heaven on the day after she died. She is survived by her brother, Vernie Houtchens of Kansas; her daughter, Darla (Victor) Mote of Colorado Springs; Darla's six children, Eric (Lorelei) Mote, Titus (Morgan) Mote, Caleb Mote, Joshua (Lauren) Mote, Samuel Mote, and Caroline Mote; three of Bonnie's four children, Claire (Jerry) Schupbach, David (Lauren) Ackerman and Andrew (Kendra) Ackerman; Ron's three children, Kelly Vichos, Krystal Miller, and Kassie Meadows; Rick's two children, Victor Vette and Tad Vette; twenty-five great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.A Graveside Service was held at Chico Basin Cemetery. Memorial Contributions in Ninetta's memory may be made to the Awana Program of Mesa Hills Bible Church, 615 West Uintah Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80905.
