Obituary of Richard Fredrick Cornell

Richard Fredrick Cornell of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away on July 18, 2020 at the age of 81 after several months of declining health. Richard died peacefully with his beloved wife, Nancy, and their children by his side.Richard was born in Winterset, Iowa on July 10, 1939 to Harold L. and Wilma G. Cornell. The second of five children, Richard started work at an early age to help the family. He helped his dad repair his truck, and when his father became sick Richard often missed school in order to drive his father's truck.December 1, 1962, Richard married his high school sweetheart, Nancy K. Lindgren. Richard's work ethic and desire to take care of his family led him and Nancy to become owners and operators of Cornell Trucking, Inc. They kept Cornell Trucking, Inc. hauling for over fifty years in Colorado before retiring. Richard was a talented truck driver that could always maneuver his truck into narrow spaces and became well-known to the local truck drivers.Richard enjoyed years of hunting and working on his cabin. Before becoming sick, he would take off to the cabin at every moment he could. He enjoyed relaxing in his chair on the porch and having his grandchildren. Richard attempted to make all his grandchildren's events to show them how proud his was of them.Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Harold L. and Wilma G. Cornell; and his sister, Joyce Cornell.He is survived by his wife, Nancy K. Cornell; children, Troy Cornell and Tanya Currin; granddaughters, McKenzie Cornell, Jordan Ward, Madisyn Thornton, Caylee Currin, Casey Currin, and Cadey Currin; and his great-grandson, Houston Hines.
