Obituary of Lyonell R. Unruh
Lyonell R. Unruh, 70, of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away Monday, July 27, 2020.He was born May 18, 1950 in Great Bend, Kansas to LaVerne and Lois Unruh.He graduated from Larned High School in 1968 and from Kansas State University in 1973 with a degree in architectural design. He moved to Colorado Springs that summer where he found his first architecture job and worked in the field until he retired in June of 2018. A few of his many accomplishments were being part of the team that worked on a portion of the Olympic Training Center, projects for many local high schools, and at the Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp.He was baptized on confession of faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 14. He was actively involved in Beth-El Mennonite Church.Lyonell loved being out in nature and the mountains. Camping and hiking were favorite pastimes of his as was evidenced by his hiking up all of the 14ers and other high peaks in Colorado. He was a big fan of bluegrass music and would attend the festivals in Westcliffe, Colorado and the Black Rose Acoustic Society.He married Lynn Lamberta in 1994 and to this union a daughter was born, Mariah, now 24. They later divorced, and married Karen Wilson in January 2020.Lyonell is survived by his wife, Karen; and daughter, Mariah; brothers, Gary (DeLonna) Unruh of Hesston, Kansas and Virlon (Martha) Unruh of St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada; and four nephews, Brian, Brad, Thaddaeus, and Tobias.Memorial contributions in Lyonell's memory may be made to the Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp of Divide, Colorado.
