Obituary of Richard "Dick" Neil Schultz
Dick was born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 27, 1943 the second son to Charles and Ethel Schultz. He had an older brother, David who preceded him, and a younger brother, Dan who survives him. When Dick was about 4, his family relocated to Carlsbad, New Mexico when his father went to work for an uncle on a dairy farm. The family lived in Carlsbad for about a year until his father moved the family to Pueblo, Colorado in 1948. He attended the original Centennial High School. He and his older brother David both played the accordion through junior and senior high school and Dick played the bass fiddle in the orchestra. He graduated in 1961. Over the next several years, he attended Pueblo Community College which became Southern Colorado State College. He graduated as the first student to attend Parkview Hospital's Medical Technology program in 1965.While in college, Dick met and married his late wife, Betty A. Winegar. They had two children, Kristen and Gregory. Dick and Betty owned and ran Medical Service Laboratory, in Pueblo, for many years. In 1997, they moved to Beulah, Colorado before entering retirement. They remained married until November 2009 when Betty died. Greg died in 2011.In 2011, Dick reconnected with a good friend, Patti, from he and Betty's earlier life. Patti's husband Jerry had passed in 2005 and she had moved to the Portland, Oregon area. After a courtship of about two years, they were married on August 10, 2013. In order to participate in the lives of their families and grandchildren, they moved back to Colorado Springs, the halfway point between Dick's family, Kristen (Bret) Stowers and Baylee in Manzanola, and Patti's family, Holly (Nick) Massie and Maren and Sonja, in the Denver area. Dick loved the outdoors and was an avid bird hunter and fisherman. He proudly watched his granddaughter, Baylee, have successful pheasant hunts. He made several trips to Canada for fishing with his good friends. He and Patti had a love of travel and were able to travel abroad many times and enjoyed several cruises over the past years.Dick was a man of strong faith and family values which he instilled in his family. He had a life filled with love and will be greatly missed by so many.Memorial Service, 1:00PM, Saturday, September 12, 2020, Bethel Lutheran Church, 4925 Farmingdale Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80917.Reception to follow at Bethel Lutheran Church Christ Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dick's memory may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church, (bethellutheran.net) or the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (hsppr.org)
