Obituary of CAPT William "Bill" G. Nealon, U.S. Navy,

William "Bill" G. Nealon, 94, of Monument, Colorado, passed away on September 10, 2020.One of six children, Bill was born in Brockton, Massachusetts on December 25, 1925.He entered the Navy's Aviation Cadet program in October 1943 and was commissioned and designated a Naval Aviator in February 1947. His Navy career included assignments as Commanding Officer, Light Attack Squadron (Fifty-Six), where he flew 85 "Sky Hawk" A-4 combat missions in Southeast Asia from the USS Ticonderoga; as Air Operations officer on the USS Ranger in Southeast Asia; and as Commanding Officer, Naval Air Station, Lakehurst, New Jersey.Bill received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Business Administration from George Washington University. He also graduated from The Naval Postgraduate School and U.S. Naval War College. He retired from the Navy at the grade of Captain on April 1, 1977.Following retirement, Bill and his wife moved from his last assignment in Anchorage, Alaska to Monument, Colorado where they built their home. They have lived there the past forty years. He was an avid hunter, snow skier, model train enthusiast, cold coffee and warm beer drinker, as well as community volunteer with the Monument Police Department and the Woodmoor Improvement Association.Bill was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by Margaret, his wife of seventy-one years; three daughters, Terry (Tom) Bogel, Laurie (Steve) Stith and Michelle (Bill) Bhatta; nine grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren. A private Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30AM, Friday, September 18, 2020. Bill will be laid to rest at Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill's memory may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church, Monument, Colorado or The Rocky Mountain Regional VA Fisher House, Aurora, Colorado.
