Obituary of Suzanne "Suzy" Lois Rising

Suzanne Lois Drysdale Rising passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 27, 2020 in Colorado Springs, one month shy of her 88th birthday. Mom, Suzy, Sue, Grandma or Gigi was born in 1932 and lived all over the United States and in Europe. She was married to the love of her life, Colonel Lucien Edward Rising for sixty-three years until Lou's death in 2017. Suzy was born in Buffalo, New York to Walter Scott Drysdale and Anne Boyer Drysdale.Suzy was the loving mom to sons, Greer Scott Rising and John Edward Rising. She was a dear friend to daughters-in-law, Eileen Martin Rising and Valerie Caruso Rising. She was Grandma to Kurt, Julie and Scott Rising, and great-grandmother or Gigi to Kurt and Kelsey Rising's children, Dalton Edward Rising and Brooke Anne Rising. Sue is also survived by her sister, Mary Anne Drysdale Wilke; Walter Scott Drysdale; and their spouses, Gary Wilke and Judy Drysdale.Suzy's retirement home in Colorado Springs was her forty-sixth home. Two of Suzy's favorite assignments serving her country as an Army wife were Italy and West Point. Raised by a family of patriots and service members, as a teenager Suzy arrived in Germany in December 1946, and while there witnessed the Nuremberg trials and attended her prom in Heidelberg Castle. She had a photographic memory and told wonderful stories of living in Italy and the Netherlands hosting Embassy parties and of the family's other friendships and adventures over eleven years in Europe. Suzy's passions included her infamous collection of dolls from all over the world, her zest for winning at Scrabble, her dedication to family genealogy, and her love of travel and history. While not a member, she was a long-time volunteer for the Latter-day Saints Library in Colorado Springs, sharing her genealogy talents. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames, First Families of Ohio and the Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims.In recent years Suzy was offered support and companionship by not only her family but also by caring neighbors, loving friends and expert professional caregivers, and the family is extremely grateful to them all.Suzy will be remembered in a private ceremony at West Point where she will be buried alongside her beloved Lucien. This will be scheduled after the pandemic.
