Obituary of Alan Bradford Darien
Alan Darien was born on January 20, 1964 in Okinawa, Japan to Janie L. (Smoot) Darien and Arthur Lee Darien, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Darien; beautiful daughter, Lauren Darien; father; and three siblings, Arthur L. Darien, III, Kendall R. Darien, and Michele Y. Darien. He was preceded in death by his mother; and older sister, Denise Darien.Lisa and Alan met in high school and were high school sweethearts. They were married on July 30, 1983. Alan was a loving husband and dedicated family man. His family meant everything to him and he valued the connection he had built with his siblings, parents and extended family. Alan was a kind and nurturing father who always remained active in his daughter's life. Although there was some distance recently as Lauren lives out-of-state they maintained a strong and solid father-daughter bond through annual visits, regular phone calls and video chat. He always loved to see her face and hear her voice. Alan was blessed with the opportunity to have a close fatherly relationship with Lisa's younger sister, Rebekah Velazquez. He cherished the time he was able to spend with her and loved watching her grow into the amazing person she is today.Alan enjoyed being a provider, a father and helping others. Later in life he and Lisa combined these passions into becoming a foster home for children in need. Alan and Lisa were fortunate enough to have had multiple children in their home over the past few years. With each one they always opened their hearts and their home.Professionally, Alan was focused and driven to know more, learn more and to teach others. As a small business owner in computer security, he realized the value in connecting with others and helping his clients. Although highly educated, Alan always knew there was more to learn. He knew that he should never stop learning because life never stops teaching.Alan offered a peaceful presence to those around him and was a practicing Buddhist. He was a generous man, a man of honor and a man who was always willing to help those around him. Alan will be missed every day - not only for the person he was, but for the person he helped those around him become."If with a pure mind a person speaks or acts, happiness follows them like a never-departing shadow." -The BuddhaIn lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Alan's memory may be made to the National Kidney Foundation (kidney.org).
