Obituary of Barry Kent Schoenwalder
Barry Kent Schoenwalder was born to Benjamin and Pauline (Wick) Schoenwalder in St. Louis, Missouri on a mild Saturday, May 8, 1949. He was the third child and is survived by his two older sisters, Sharon (Adrian) Steinmann and Sandy (Bob) Kilpatrick; as well as his half-brother, Dan Schoenwalder. After graduating high school in 1967, he went to Southeast Missouri (SEMO) for a year on a football scholarship. Barry married Susan and had two children, Jill (Tony) Receniello and Justin Schoenwalder. He worked his way through the J.C. Penny company, Copying Concepts, and Minolta. After moving to Colorado in 1988, the reprographics industry was transforming to computers and he decided to sell insurance.Barry married Ruth, his high school sweetheart, and became a stepdad to Ruth's five children: Andrea, Holly, Stephanie (Greg Fisher), Natalie, and Joey. Barry and Ruth adopted one of their grandchildren, Nicholas.Barry was so excited to relocate to Colorado. Frequently he would stand outside and look up at Pikes Peak and say "THIS is Colorado." Barry spent many days and nights roaming the Colorado landscape, selling insurance and always meeting people and discussing cars. He loved to talk and get to know people, helping people all the time. He always wanted to make life easier for others and would give the kids a new snow scraper or auto registration holder to keep us organized. He was a special grandfather to eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Barry's hobby was all things cars. He had a head full of car knowledge. He could see a car and instantly tell you what make, what model, what year and how many were still on the road. Sometimes it drove us crazy! He loved NASCAR and all racing and spent several years on the mountain (Pikes Peak International Hill Climb).A private Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 19, 2020.
