Obituary of Robert Severin Erickson

Robert S. Erickson was born August 11, 1938 in Colorado Springs, Colorado at Memorial Hospital. Bob was an immensely proud Colorado Native, graduating from Colorado Springs High School (Palmer), class of 1956. Bob then attended the University of Colorado and later owned and operated his own construction company. He was a meticulously talented craftsman, able to invent, build and fix anything. Bob was a man of few words and many phrases, any deal made with him was sealed with a handshake. Beyond a perfectionist builder, he loved landscaping. Bob was known in the neighborhood for his hibiscus and the rock bench he built; enjoyed by many, not only for its beauty but its functionality as well. Following retirement, Bob would start his morning with a cup of coffee, hocus pocus, and the "Price is Right". He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating. His most cherished memory was an Alaskan excursion with his son Bobby. Bob's greatest love in life was his family. With a family first mindset, he could always be seen in the stands or on the sidelines to watch every one of his children and grandchildren compete. It didn't stop at sports and competition; he was a life supporter. No matter the circumstance or question of life, he was there with an answer. Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara (Bradford), of fifty-nine years; daughters, Heidi (Philip) Kourajian, Karen (Randy) Olson, Amy (Matt) Jones; daughter-in-law, Rachael; grandchildren, Tyler, Katlyn, Brandon, Joshua, Matthew, Morgan, Robert, Terrence, Angela and Chase; as well as two great-grandsons, Wyatt and Jaxon. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert S. Erickson, III; parents, Robert and Helen Erickson; and sister, Darlene. Fondest family memories include: He was known for his smile and was often referred to as "Smiley." Bob's sense of humor often came out during gift giving at Christmas time. Opening his gifts became tedious and time consuming, but well worth it (Bob loved creative wrapping). Birthdays, family dinners and BBQ's were full of Bob's special seasonings and chef's touch, where the day's fresh catch or new recipe were carried out. Often at these family gatherings dessert was found, and Bob could be heard referring to his waistline as the "vegetable bin", which was usually full of Coca-Cola and Rocky Road ice cream. Bob loved singing "Happy Birthday" or "It's time to get up in the morning", his own special creation that made us all smile. A Sunday afternoon spent with him often consisted of watching his beloved Broncos, and a meal washed down with a Coke. Though a man of few words, we all will remember his constant encouragement, love and understanding, and how he never forgot to tell you he was proud of you. One of the happiest memories we all have came later in Bob's life; when he could no longer hunt or fish, he found peace sitting on his deck, with the sun shining, taking in the view of his beloved Pike's Peak. Moving forward, the most comforting memory for the family is knowing that Bob is at peace and reunited with his loved ones. Bob leaves behind a legacy of honesty, trust, respect, a love for nature, and above all, family.Bob, Dad, Grandpa, no matter where we are, rain, snow, or sunshine, you will be with us. We love you!
