Obituary of Nikolaje "Nick" Oldja, Sr.

Nikolaje Oldja "Nick Oldja, Sr." was born on November 28, 1950 to Dimitrije and Paunica (Joca) Oldja, in a small village known as Mali Zam, Yugoslavia. He lived a simple farm life as a boy, and later, by age 12, his family relocated to the neighboring town of Vrsac where Nick could get a better education at Nikola Tesla University. Being the only surviving son of Dimitrije and Paunica, along with his two sisters, Katica and Mary, the parents sought to give them a better life. Around May of 1967 the family decided to flee communist Yugoslavia by way through Italy, and the family arrived on US soil in May of 1968. By 1977 the Lord had called Nick to become His child, and he was baptized in the old Geraldine Church in Ohio, and he became part of the family of God and fellowship of the Apostolic Christian Church Nazarene. He visited Szeged, Hungary at Christmas time in 1978, where the Lord showed him his future wife, and he proposed to Zsuzsanna Novak. They were married February 17, 1979. They both returned to Cleveland, Ohio where they had their first four children; Esther, Nick, Jr., James, and Elizabeth. In March 1984, the family moved to Southern California where they had three more children; Jonathan, Daniel and Paula. Nick lived many peaceful years there in Lake Forest where he raised his family, attended the local Nazarene church, and perfected his career as Quality Control Engineer. He had a love for working, traveling, and most importantly, a love for his family and the fellowship of the church. In 2019 he relocated the remainder of his family to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he was able to live close to six of his children. He lived the last year of his life joyfully surrounded by his wife, children, thirteen grandchildren and his sister, Mary. Nick went to meet his Lord on December 15, 2020. He will be sorely missed by his surviving wife, Zsuzsanna Oldja, his seven children and their spouses; Esther (Paul, Jr.) Pentsa, Nick Oldja Jr., James Oldja, Elizabeth Oldja, Jonathan (Georgiana) Oldja, Daniel (Rebecca) Oldja, and Paula (Jacob) Nitz; his sisters, Katica Pobega and Mary Oldja; and thirteen grandchildren, Isabella and Theodore Pentsa (Esther), Asa, Abigail, Heidi, Chloe, and David Oldja (Jonathan), Peter, Nadine, Emily, Audrey, Rachel, Hayley Oldja (Daniel), with Baby Nitz coming January 2021 (Paula); other-in-law, Ilona Novak; as well as many cousins and extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dimitrije and Paunica Oldja; brother, Peter; sister, Pelagia; his father-in-law, Janos Novak; brother-in-law, Viorel Pobega; grandson, Nathan Nitz (Paula); and a multitude of many other loved ones.Private Funeral Service, 6:00PM, Tuesday, December 22, 2020.The service will be streamed live.
