Obituary of Grace Ruby Pyles
Grace Ruby Pyles passed away peacefully December 23, 2020 with her daughter at her side. She was born to Fred and Emma Luckert just outside Edson, Kansas on the Luckert family farm June 23, 1928. Grace was the seventh of eleven living children. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Don) Grandia of Colorado Springs; sisters, Frieda (Elmer) Roberts of Arvada, Colorado, and Beulah (Edgard) Barbosa of Sao Paulo, Brazil; brother, Ernie (Ruth) Luckert of Perry, Oklahoma; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her other brothers and sisters as well as her parents preceded her in death. Grace graduated from high school in 1946 in Goodland, Kansas and was also a 1947 graduate of the Bon Ton Beauty School in Denver, Colorado. She met and married her husband, Gene Pyles, in 1948. Her daughter, Deborah, was born in 1949. Grace faithfully followed Gene as he progressed in his career in the natural gas industry, and they were both members of the United Methodist Church. She owned and operated her own beauty salons in Goodland, Kansas and Eads, Colorado. Grace also worked as a nurse/receptionist in Holyoke, Colorado before returning to her beautician roots in Limon, Colorado and Colorado Springs, Colorado. She then discovered a more flexible job working part time in the school cafeteria at Cheyenne Mountain Junior High and later finishing her working years managing the school cafeteria at Skyway Elementary in Colorado Springs. Grace enjoyed needlework, embossed copper work, baking, gardening, and attending yard sales, auctions, and haunting antique stores. She had "the eye" and could always spot a bargain or a treasure going for a little bit of nothing. Grace loved nothing better than finding bedraggled treasure and restoring it to its former glory. Her favorite part time job in retirement was working in an antique store in Gunnison, Colorado.Gene and Grace spent their retirement years in Loveland, Colorado enjoying their home and seeing and entertaining friends and family. They also enjoyed traveling.A private double interment will be held at 1:00PM, Thursday, January 7, 2020. The service will be streamed live.
