Obituary
Obituary of Leon M. Herrington
Leon was 81 years young when he died in his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado in the company of his loving wife of over sixty-one years. Leon was born at home in Mexico, New York to Stephen H. and Daisy E. Herrington (Jones). He was the brother of William, Patricia (Sawyer), Jerome, Janet (Spencer), Eileen (Connolly), Arthur, Sharon (Dexter), Mark, Alvin, Arnold, and Joann (Stevenson). He leaves behind his wife, Nancy E. Herrington (Cowen); two children, Douglas L. Herrington and Tina M. Herrington-Holmes/Robert Phelps; and two lovely grandchildren, Steven R. Holmes and Brandi M. Holmes. But he was beloved by all he knew and became like a second father to many throughout his life. His physical heart gave out but his love of people will always be in the hearts he has touched.Leon was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran and also worked as a police officer in New York state. He was extremely handy and loved cars (Ford vehicles, specifically) and applied that expertise to his work as a mechanic and managing gas stations. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and worked many of his years as a self-employed businessman alongside his wife, Nancy, on everything from cellular stores to muffler shops. When Leon retired, he was very active in his senior community where he liked helping out and telling jokes. He enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR races, John Wayne films and a good slice of pizza. While he spent a great deal of his earlier years moving around New York (Mexico, Mapleview, Ilion, Herkimer, and Oneonta), he came to call Colorado Springs, Colorado his home for the last twenty-eight years. No matter where he went he always made a new friend.Graveside Service, 10:00AM, Wednesday, August 18, 2021, Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80925.
