Obituary of Stephen Jay Uglow

Stephen J. Uglow passed away unexpectedly on January 28, 2021. Stephen was born in Colorado Springs, CO on November 1, 1957 to Walter Van Uglow and Waleryja (Kamensky) Uglow. Steve attended Pauline Memorial School and graduated from St. Mary's High School, class of 75. Steve forged friendships that have lasted a lifetime, and since he never met a stranger, there are many mourning his passing.Steve graduated from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service in 1981 and was a Funeral Director with Evergreen Funeral Home for 23 years. He considered it an honor to work with many of his classmates and friends planning their family members' funeral arrangements. Everyone who dealt with Steve on "the worst day of their life" was grateful for his calming presence, friendship, and guidance. Steve took his vocation as a Funeral Director very seriously and always treated his clients with compassion and respect. In recent years, Steve was employed as a Special Investigator with a government contractor. He performed background investigations on people requiring security clearance for government employment. Steve genuinely enjoyed his work. He said with a smile, "I like to talk to peopleand I get to carry a badge."Steve hit the jackpot when he married Susan Hopkins on October 30, 1997. Their marriage was one of love, laughter, and respect. They teased each other, laughed with each other, and loved each other. A party or occasion wasn't complete unless Steve and Susan were in attendance. He was a fabulous husband, a great friend, and a devoted son. In addition to the tattoo of a vintage horse-drawn hearse on his arm, he had the word "Matka" (mom in Polish) tattooed on the other arm as well as a rainbow trout to commemorate the memory of his father and their time together spent fishing.Steve had a keen sense of humor and an even quicker wit. He had many inside jokes with his friends and more often than not when a close friend started a joke or a quote from a mutually favorite movie, Steve would finish it. He'd tell a joke or a story and look at you with a mischievous glint in his eye and just grin. Man, we will miss that.Steve was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Walter M. Uglow. He is survived by his wife, Susan; sister, Gloria Ney; and countless friends.A service to celebrate Steve's life will be held later this year, when we can all gather, hug, and share our memories of this amazing guy we were all lucky to call our friend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Steve's memory may be made to an animal rescue of the giver's choice.
