Obituary of Maj Charles Benjamin Townsend,, USAF Jr.
Maj Charles Benjamin Townsend, Jr., USAF (Ret.) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, went home to the Lord on March 8, 2021. He was born to Charles and Carol Townsend on August 31, 1932, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Charles married the love of his life, Mary Davis, on October 3, 1953.Surviving Charles are his two children, Charles B. (Julie) Townsend, III and Leslie A. (Stan) Moise; his sister, Deanna (Ken); brother, Jeff (Lois); and sister-in-law, Jane. Charles was blessed with five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary; as well as his parents.Charles attended the ROTC program at Penn State University, turning it into a rewarding career with the United States Air Force. Many years of military postings throughout the U.S. and Europe created countless memories with his wife of fifty-nine years. Some of his fondest came from a duty station in Aviano, Italy, as well as, an unaccompanied tour in Turkey. Charles, never the one to be hesitant, would venture off base into the remote country side to surround himself with the local culture. Countless stories still weave through the family today in the lives of his children.Retiring from the Air Force, Charles and Mary settled in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Charles entered into the private sector work force for TRW finally retiring and relocating to Simla, Colorado. It was in Simla where Charles and Mary met a devoted servant of the Lord, which brought them to know our Savior, Jesus Christ. His new found faith, along with his admiration of the Cowboy way of life, was a driving force in his life. Charles always took the opportunity to speak to his family and friends about God and the importance of biblical values that this country was founded on. He was an exceptional reader and always had an article or two about a subject you may or may not be interested in. Regardless, you were going tobe informed. The small town living and their love of horses provided many years of happiness. But Simla was not to be their final destination. Eventually, they chose to make another move and relocated to Green Valley, Arizona. In Green Valley, Charles became an active and devoted member of the Evangelical Free Church of Green Valley. Along with his close friend, Jim Creagh, he performed numerous services for the church. Many friendships developed from his church family. Charlescontinued his love for horses, participating in parades and group riding events. Charles developed a close relationship with various Green Valley residents making for a rewarding life in Green Valley.Because of an illness suffered by Mary, a decision was made by Charles and Mary to relocate back up to Simla, Colorado to be closer to the family.Upon Mary's passing, Charles lived with his daughter and son-in-law. Charles continued his devotion to the Lord in his attendance to Living Springs Church in Calhan, with Pastor Rick Coffer providing spiritual guidance. Charles finally settled in a Colorado Springs assisted living facility. It is there that he resided until his recent passing. As with all loses of this kind, sadness has settled over the family from his passing. With this though, we rejoice in the fact that along with Charles, his family has a loving relationship with our Savior Jesus Christ and we are comforted in knowing that in the future we will be re-united with Charles.
