Obituary of Mary Maureen Miller
Maureen Miller, 77, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1987 and formerly of Flagstaff, Arizona and San Diego, California died on March 10, 2021 at her home in Colorado Springs. She was a retired registered nurse, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and trusted friend.Mary Maureen Kirby was born on November 13, 1943 in Brookings, South Dakota to the late Charles and Golda (Tharpe) Kirby. She attended schools in Verdi, Minnesota until she met and married a young man in the Navy, Fred William Miller. They were very young and needed her parent's permission to marry at such a young age.They soon married on August 5, 1960 in Elkton, South Dakota. He was stationed at Long Beach Navy Base in California and that is where they started their young family.Maureen received her GED in California and then began Nursing School while raising a family of four children. She received her nursing degree in 1978 from the University of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff. They lived in Flagstaff for fourteen years to ensure that their children would all graduate from high school there.Maureen was a gifted and compassionate registered nurse who worked for Nurse Finders, Home Health Care, Health South Rehabilitation Clinics and other private nursing assignments.She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Fred Miller; her sons, Guy Miller and Boyd (Maureen) Miller, both of Colorado Springs; her daughters, Tracy (Greg) Kleine of Colorado Springs, and Rebekah (R.J.) Brooks of Clarksville, Virginia; brother, Allen Kirby of Santee, California; and six wonderful grandchildren.Maureen was a longtime member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs and will be best remembered for her faith, her love of family, intelligence, gentleness and natural beauty, both inside and out.Memorial contributions in Maureen's memory may be made to Brookdale Hospice or to Bethel Lutheran Church. Private family services will be held at the Bethel Lutheran Church Columbarium at a later date.Blessed be her memory.
