Obituary of Carole Yvonne Harper
Carole Schlich Harper was born on August 6, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri to Catherine and Harold Schlich. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in Nashville, Tennessee in 1953. While there, she enjoyed and excelled in musical and academic endeavors. She was the first person in her family to attend college and graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Arts in History. While at Vanderbilt, Carole met the love of her life, Clio Armitage "Arnie" Harper, Jr. on a blind date. They were set up by Arnie's brother, Lawrence, while Arnie was visiting Lawrence at school. Carole and Arnie married on December 11, 1955. After graduating from college, Carole taught high school for several years in Nashville. Carole and Arnie then moved to Honolulu where Arnie served our country as a Naval aviator. Carole worked at Queen's Hospital and occupied her time with their beloved cocker spaniel, Admiral. After three years in Honolulu, Carole and Arnie returned to Nashville and Arnie completed his studies at Vanderbilt Medical School in 1963. Carole and Arnie then moved to Little Rock, Arkansas for three years while Arnie finished his residency at the University of Arkansas Medical School. The next move was to Beaumont, Texas where Carole and Arnie built a very successful medical practice together. Carole was very active in the arts, philanthropy and with the Junior League of Beaumont, where she served as president from 1974 to 1975. In 1994, Carole and Arnie retired to Colorado Springs, Colorado where they built their dream home and enjoyed the beautiful mountain scenery, tending to geraniums and watching for hummingbirds from their back porch. Carole continued her active life in Colorado, regularly meeting with friends to play bridge, spending time outside with a walking group at the Broadmoor and enjoying events at the opera, ballet and symphony.She is survived by her husband, Arnie; and her children, Clio Armitage "Armie" Harper III, Heather Yvonne Harper and Brante Schlich Harper.She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brittany Yvonne Biggs, Caroline Callie Biggs, Holly Catherine Harper, Clio Armitage Harper IV, and Brenton Harper.A Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, April 22, 2021, Pauline Memorial Chapel, 2 Park Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80906.In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Westside Cares of Colorado Springs.
