Obituary of TSgt Carl Donald Hensley, USAF,

Carl Donald Hensley, 89, passed from this earth and entered peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 19, 2021.Carl was born on December 30, 1931 in Lowell, Kentucky to Theodore and Madeline Hensley, who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by a sister, Una Raisley (Phillip); a brother, Keith Hensley (Nancy); a son-in-law, James Gable; and a great-granddaughter, Farrah Spangler. He is survived by his sister, Gail Jones (Johnny); his wife of sixty-eight years, Florence "Flo"; children, Sharon Baker (Larry), Denise McKinney (Rick), Michael Hensley (Christa), Donna Gable, Janet Jenks (Maurice), and Lorna Scott (Craig); nineteen grandchildren; and thirty-nine great-grandchildren, with two on the way. After working several local jobs, including as an ice delivery person, a drug store clerk, and a soda jerk, Carl joined the Air Force at age 17.He soon found himself stationed in the suburbs of London, where he met his future bride. Together they traveled across the globe, eventually with their six children in tow. He served two assignments away from the family, one in Greenland and one in Southeast Asia, during the Vietnam war, where he was exposed to Agent Orange. Every new assignment was an adventure for Carl, particularly the ones that included the family; there was nothing he enjoyed more than a day spent exploring his surroundings, with his family crowded into the back of a station wagon. The one outstanding quality that describes Carl is his love for the Lord. He served as a Deacon in several churches through the years and was awarded the honor of Deacon Emeritus at Redemption Hill Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He traveled to several countries, including Romania, Japan, and Chile, some more than once, on mission trips. He also loved visiting Israel and studying prophecy and was always ready to talk about his Lord to anyone he came into contact with, which resulted in countless souls being won for Christ.Carl was a fun-loving, generous, adventurous man, who was profoundly loved by his family and friends. He adored his wife and was always mindful of the blessing she was to him and his children. As a father, he understood the hearts of his children; there was always fun and laughter in the Hensley household and the example of a man who knew and loved his Lord to the very end.Carl left behind a Godly heritage, and although it is with heavy hearts that we announce his passing, it is with great joy that we can say with absolute certainty that he is in the presence of his precious Savior, Jesus Christ.Celebration of Life, 12:00PM, Thursday, May 27, 2021, Redemption Hill Church, 124 Delaware Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.
