Obituary of Shirley Janet Campbell
Our dear Aunt Shirley passed away peacefully at Brookdale Monument Valley Park, where she received wonderful care for the past two years, and where she befriended staff and residents alike. She was born in Pepeekeo, South Hilo, when Hawaii was still a territory. Shirl attended UCLA and graduated from Colorado College in 1953.Moving to California, she spent most of her adult life in the San Francisco bay area, first enjoying "city life" working at Standard Oil, before moving to the east bay in Orinda to start a family. Her passion was traveling the world with friends, and she planned yearly trips abroad as long as her health allowed. In 2018 she decided to move back to Colorado Springs to be close to her niece and her family. Shirl was an inspiration to all of us. She had such an open heart, great kindness and courage in the face of several health issues. The grace she extended to everyone, and the way she approached life, was beyond compare. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; and sister, Ruth.Shirl is survived by her daughter, Janet; granddaughter, Ashlynn; niece, Maile Gray and her husband Spencer Wren. Her great-niece, Briar ;and great-nephew, Graham will miss her terribly as she so smoothly transitioned into the role of "grandma".Her family and friends will miss her fiercely but feel blessed that she did not suffer long.
