Obituary of Donald Wane Foster

Donald W. Foster was born November 9, 1936, in Fort Collins, Colorado to Wesley and Florence Foster. He left this earthly home on June 10, 2021, surrounded by the family he loved. Don leaves behind his loving wife of sixty-four years, Rose Ann; children, Ron (Pam) Foster, Virginia (Al) Johnson, Mike (Frederike) Foster, Steve (Suzanne) Foster, Karen (Phil) Goetzmann; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; along with numerous extended family.Don grew up in Penrose, Colorado, and soon after graduating from Penrose High School, he married Rose Ann Stock. They resided in Colorado Springs, Colorado for most of their married life. Don worked in construction his entire career, eventually owning Drywall Specialists until his retirement in 1994 when his three sons purchased the business.Don was a man of many talents and interests. Active in SCI for numerous years (president from 1996-2000), he had a passion for hunting. He hunted big game in Africa, New Zealand, New Foundland, Canada, Texas, and especially loved his elk hunts around Tarryall, Colorado. He enjoyed high country fishing in Alaska with his wife, brother, and sister-in-law. He got a thrill out of being part of various pit-crews like the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, off-road races through the Bajas, and the Mint 400.One of Don's favorite places on earth, was Tarryall, Colorado, where he thoroughly enjoyed his mountain home and the companionship of neighbors which became lifelong friends. He sat on the TRE Board for numerous years, and volunteered for projects every year he owned there. He loved fishing, entertaining family, horseback riding, and watching wildlife in the area.Don was not one to be idle and enjoyed working on projects that would simplify a task. He loved being "called upon" to help by family and friends, was the first to jump in and help along with offering advice. On any given day, he might be found designing/building ATV racks, advising on a Scout project, in a tractor helping in the hay fields, tinkering/restoring old cars, branding cattle, baking potica bread and stollen to give away at the holidays, and numerous remolding projects. Don was 84 years of age when he helped a close neighbor complete a drywall job.Foremost, Don loved his family. Many family weekends were spent camping, fishing, ATVing in Moab, hunting trips, or hanging out with his beloved grandkids. He'd ride horses, atvs, razors, or beat-up trucks if family was involved. If you laughed at his goofy antics, he'd repeat them 10x over. He loved a good laugh. He loved a good sport. As a dear friend has shared, there will be a perpetual presence of an absence that will never go away.Memorial Service, 10:30AM, Saturday, June 26, 2021, The Springs Funeral Services-North, 6575 Oakwood Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80923.Inurnment, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Columbarium, 2650 Parish View, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80919.
