Obituary
Obituary of Col Casmier "Cash" Jaszczak, USAF,
Col Casmier Jaszczak passed away on June 12, 2021 after a multi-year battle with several medical issues. Cash was born in Orleans, Minnesota, a tiny town five miles from the Canadian border, on September 28, 1944. From these humble beginnings, Cash launched himself into a lifelong pursuit of excellence culminating in a highly successful career spanning over twenty-nine years of dedicated service to the U.S. Air Force and his country.Cash entered the Academy in June 1963 and promptly conducted a summer-long series of tutorials for upperclassmen on the proper pronunciation and spelling of Polish surnames. A member of CS-19 (Playboys), Cash was the epitome of the impatient pragmatist; a 'do it now, with whatever resources are available' type of guy, and he quickly developed a reputation for being able to fix anything using whatever he had in his pockets. Cash was relentless in the pursuit of his objectives and the most important one was the love of his life, Miss Marilyn Olson, of Hallock, Minnesota. Cash and Marilyn were married on August 26, 1967 and successfully flew together through both the storms and sunny days of life for over fifty-three years.Cash's Air Force career began with pilot training at Laughlin AFB followed by a tour as a T-37 instructor pilot at Williams AFB. He then moved across town to F-4 RTU at Luke AFB with subsequent F-4 tours at Ubon RTAFB, Thailand and RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom. Cash then rotated back to Nellis AFB, Nevada and then to SOS in Alabama followed by a tour in the Pentagon. After attending Air War College at Maxwell AFB, Alabama, Cash had a couple months stop at Homestead AFB to refresh his flying skills, then to Moody AFB where he became the squadron commander of the 69th TFS. He then moved to MacDill AFB, Florida in the F16 where he served as the DO and Vice Commander of the wing, with a combat deployment to the Middle East as Wing Commander during Operation Desert Storm. Putting his flying days behind him, Cash embarked on a tour in Washington DC as a Congressional Liaison Officer for the Air Force. Cash returned home to Nellis for his final tour, serving as the Liaison officer to the Department of Energy concerning use of Air Force facilities in Nevada. Cash never faltered in his quest to leave every organization and assignment in the Air Force better than he found it. The Air Force is a better place for Col "Cash" Jaszczak's having been a part of it and many of us are better people for having known him. After retirement, Cash continued to work for the Department of Energy and then as a contractor until his health prevented him from contributing at the high standard he was known for.Cash's personal legacy with his family and friends is largely centered around his exceptional ability to keep the peace, for cracking a joke at just the right time, and for being dedicated to the well-being of his family - sharing his love and attention with his wife, children, and grandchildren.Cash is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; his six children, Leah (Scott) Wallin, CW5 Charles, U.S. Army (Ret.) (Jennifer) Jaszczak, Janelle Jaszczak, Renee (Jay) Fetzer, Elizabeth (Chris) (both USAFA 06) McClintock, and Drew (USAFA 09) (Ashley) Jaszczak; his brothers, Joe and Leo; sister, Angie; and his twelve grandchildren.Visitation, 4:00PM-7:00PM, Monday, August 2, 2021, The Springs Funeral Services-North, 6575 Oakwood Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado.Rosary, 10:30AM, Mass of Christian Burial immediately following, 11:00AM, Tuesday, August 3, 2021, St. Peter Catholic Church, 55 Jefferson Street, Monument, Colorado 80132.Col "Cash" Jaszczak will be laid to rest at 1:00PM, Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at the U.S. Air Force Academy Cemetery, Air Force Academy, Colorado 80841, surrounded by his family and friends amidst the sounds of F-16s overhead and many nickels hitting the grass. The Graveside Service will be streamed live.
