Obituary of Eileen Josephine Rivera Carter

Eileen Josephine Rivera Carter, 74, died unexpectedly on June 17, 2021, at Memorial Central Hospital. She was born May 22, 1947, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the daughter of Ray and MaryAnn Rivera.Eileen attended St. Mary's High School, class of 1965. She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Denver in 1969. She immediately went to work at Penrose Hospital as an Operating Room Nurse in Colorado Springs, where she rose to Head Nurse. After receiving a master's in nursing from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, Eileen finished her nursing career at Memorial Central, retiring in 2013.�In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Rivera. She enjoyed a lifelong friendship with George Carter, who preceded her in death by a few months.Eileen is survived by four brothers, Tony Rivera (Jeanne Kilbane) of Penrose, Colorado, Ed Rivera (Lisa Gonzales Webster) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Ken Rivera (Patty) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Rodney Rivera (Rebecca) of Fort Collins, Colorado; two nephews, Kyle Rivera and Capt. Chad Rivera, USAF; four nieces, Kayla Rivera, Melinda Rivera, Gianna Bueno, and Analicia Bueno; and one great-niece, Lianna Rivera. She also leaves her loving Shih Tzu, Biscuit, who a family member has adopted.�Eileen was a loving person and enjoyed spending time with her large extended family. She enjoyed cooking, travel, reading, sports, and being a fan of Colorado professional sports teams. Eileen loved to plan get-togethers, picnics, brunches, birthday parties, and barbecues. She selflessly gave so much to others while never asking anything in return.
